I was looking over the tournament section on this site and saw the list of teams playing in the Poland Pride tournament. Noticing the week field of teams entered, does it make sence for a strong team to enter this tournament just to get its birth? Or others like it?

Rich,

A couple of years ago, we were looking at tournaments to get into. ?We were looking at a particular tournament that didn't have a strong field. ?I mentioned to my DD (12U at that time) we were looking at this tournament. ?She looked at the teams entered and said "What fun would that be?" ?Point taken and lesson learned.

I'm not the TD, but I'm sure that there could be "A" and "B" berths awarded at this tournament (depending on the # of teams entered). ?If a strong team entered this tournament and won it, then everyone (especially OFC posters) would now how this team got their berth and they would be getting "eye rolls" ::) ::) ::) the rest of the season.

Maybe these teams are trying for a "B" berth. ?A couple of the teams already listed have a history of going to the "B" World Series every year. ?I do not know if the TD is advertising this as a "B" tournament, but he might get more teams if he went strictly "B".

Just Curious,

Maybe I am taking this the wrong way and I apoogize for coming on strong and to whoever else my spelling and grammer sucks. Let me tell you a little about the Poland Pride, because I am taking this a little personal. ?For some reason I am taking your comments like the teams suck that are in this tournament. ?I have been with the Poland Pride Travel teams for about fours years now from Managing to coaching. ?Last year my 10u team was ranked #7 for NSA until we dropped off to play the Little Leauge route. ?We have been State Champs four times in the last five years at 10u level. ?Should have been 10u State Champs last year if it wasn't for one jerk for not changing his mind on what he said at the District meeting and another real big jerk at the age of about 43 calling in on a bunch of 10 year old to disqualify them; his first name happens to be *****.

As far as our 12u team last year, well, they made it all the way to Missouri last year becoming runner up to regional for Little Leauge. ?Which would have been kinda cool to watch them on ESPN. ?They lost to Michigan by one run. ?I am very proud of our teams, We are one of the few travel teams out there that pull from their own community; and the reason we do this is to get ready for the Little Leauge tournaments. ?We are the best in the world, but I will tell you we beat some good teams out their in travel ball and gave a lot of them some good competition; having the coaches on the other team either pretty mad because they did not expect it from one of us or telling us that we are a really good team.

Sure some of you may have seen us at a tournament and agree with me and some may say we sucked. ?They are 11 and 12 and they can't play like machines every day. ?We all have our bad days, and we seen our first one this year yesterday at a tournament.

Okay I feel better now ?:)

All the so called "best teams" can't be in every tournament all the time. Every tournament would love to draw many teams from all spectrums and levels of talent. That's the reason they pay for the bids for nationals or worlds, to help draw in better teams. A couple of good name teams entering a tournament can draw others and the so called "lower level" teams need and I'm sure desire to play better teams. It can be a win / win stuation for the teams and the tournament director. I'd really like to see people spend a little more effort supporting all the teams and tournaments for what they're trying to accomplish, no matter what the "perceived" level is.

I have notice that some of the "perceived" lower level teams are kicking some "perceived" higher level teams buts. I am noticing more parity now than I have in the past. More girls are taking pitching and hitting lessons, etc.

Look what happened at the Field of Dreams a couple weekends ago. The Slammers who are one of the best got beat by Ohio Blast who weren't even on the 14u poll. The Blast is a very good team as are the Slammers. I would say you really don't know what kind of talent is on any team at any time. ;)

I don't think its fair to the Poland Pride people to treat their tournament like it is talentless! JMHO :'(

I have to disagree with your last statement Sad. It is not just your humble opinion. It is a fact that its unfair. We've never played the Poland Pride but come on, they at least deserve the common courtesy of every other tournament.

It has nothing to do with the Poland Pride org. at all. I was just noticing the week 14u field of teams then I asked the question. And yes anyone can be beat at any time I agree. But the question I asked still remains.

Well going back to your origianl question. If your goal is to go to Nationals then you could say it's a savy move. In late July at the National tournament is anyone really going to know or even care where you got your berth. Of course if you enter a tourney for some cheap easy wins two thing will happen, you'll be disappointed when one of the lower level teams whips you, and it will eventually catch up to you when you do play the "elite" teams.... Are we talking about Big10 football here.

I had coaches tell me they like to play up every once in awhile for the girls and tournaments like that... gives the girls a chance to play up and better competition by a couple better teams playing a combo "A" and "B" tournament that is held as one tournament.

That's where the theory of listing the teams in the tournament can help and can hurt you as a TD

It isn't just about the Poland Pride organization. What about all the other teams you just disrespected in this post. Have you played all the teams in this "weak field of of 14u teams"? How could you possible know if these teams are not as good as your obviously "elite" team!

The word "week" was used twice now in this topic. I'll assume that meant "weak". Thats the problem here I think. Why on earth would someone post something like that? Its disrespectful. I know exactly what the poster means and I too will sometimes think about a tourney as having a weak field. But I'd surely never post those thoughts. One, as to not disrespect those teams. The players, parents, coaches of those teams usually go through as much effort and planning for their teams as anyone else. Just because they currently may not be as talented game to game as some of the "elite" teams does not mean they should be disrespected by comments like that. Secondly, I'm sure there are a few teams in the field in this case that could very well beat the team that the original poster is affiliated with on any given day, though I do not know which team that is. Doesn't matter. But to give another team an additional reason to beat you doesn't make sense. Let alone an entire tourney field of teams. Finally, whether the poster is a parent, coach, fan, or maybe even a player, making comments like that tend to get attached to everyone involved with your team even though it was only one person who actually expressed this opinion.

As for the original question, I'd have to say no. Do not enter a tournament solely to get an easy berth. If you have an open weekend and all want to play then go for it. Its an A tourney so no reason why you can't. But I wouldn't put it onour schedule soley because I know we could get an easy berth. If your team is that "elite" it should easily be able to attain a berth at some point during the year. If not, then why would you consider going to Nationals? Playing weaker competition is useless. I know my DD and I wanted to get her into travel ball so she could play with and against her peers. Beating up on less talented teams, especially by design, would go totally against that.

I'll say that the good "A" teams will attract others to come play them in certain tournaments.

As a tournament director of the Little Lady Quaker Showcase/Uniform Blowout..... I am working with the lady from Ross County to get two motels to "donate" their entry fee into the tournament for a Michigan organization and all their teams... if they stay two nights and book at their motels....

Oh yes, I am in a sense... giving an organization a possible help up but if they drive this far to play.... why not give the parents of these teams a break by getting a motel to "donate" their entry fee.

I made the "invitation" this morning..... and will be sending it out this evening when I hear back from the Ross County lady.

*sigh* This question could have been easily asked without mentioning teams or tournaments and no one would have been offended. Can we all move on and next time ask such questions without identifying any team or tournament specifically. :(

Dice or I mean Rich or what ever name you are going by today,
Man do you have serious problems. If you are questioning something you should not include the tournament name. That is ignorant and disrepectful. I actually see a couple teams that I know are pretty strong this year. And where do you get off saying that the pool is weak. Have you seen all these teams play this spring already? Do us all a favor and keep your stupid comments to yourself. If you have an actual question keep it respectful to all those involved.

jmho, I don't think the 14U field looks weak, but I don't know your team. If you want to play that weekend you will have to decide if that tournament meets your goals. If not, enter a different tournament or take the weekend to practice and wait for 16U or 18U tourneys to enter in the summer!
