Last summer in Dayton, July 19 to be exact, there are 2 outs, Runner on 2nd, batter hits a blooper to right field between Rightfielder and the Foul line... Batter is trying to stretch a singal into a double to allow the runner that was on 2nd to score the go ahead run. my DD whom plays SS, went to cover 2nd and the righfielder throws to 2nd to get the final ou of the inning. The batter who was a little bigger than my daughter, is running full tilt, the throw is a little short on the first base side of 2nd base, my dd catches the throw as the batter is arriving, DD makes the tag prior to the runner scoring, inning over. DD comes to dugout, says coach, I need my dad, I think I broke my hand. I come to the dug out, she slowly removes her glove, then the stinky batting glove...(Injury to father;s nose) and her left thumb is swelling before my eyes...
She is 2nd to bat she is going to just stand in the box, in hopes of a walk, but when she brushes her bat against her thumb she starts crying out. We take her to the local hospital and yep...broken thumb, casted it next day at orthopedic Doctor's office out for next 6 weeks. She did pinch run in last tourny though... Still today... gets a little sore...
