Daughters worst softball injury

I have no problem with masks and pads, as long as they are vountary. If they must wear a mask they should also have to wear knee braces. Knee injuries happen more often than bad face injuries.

difference is long term knee brace makes knee weaker mask does not make anything weaker just more safe

My point was tongue in cheek. By the way, the brace would only make the knee weaker if it is worn all the time, including workouts (reference NFL linemen. They wear them only during practice and games, not during workouts).
I really dont think girls should were knee braces as a prevention method, but I do feel a mask should be voluntary. Sorry , there are just enough severe face injuries to warrant madatory enforcement of wearing the mask. Sure it happens, but not very often. If a kid wants to wear one, have at it. Head injuries also happen on defense, but not often. Will there be people advocating helmets soon?

DD Catcher.
Runner on first, DD in the up position ready to make the throw to 2nd on the steal. Batter takes monster swing and drives the ball down into Home plate and it bounces back up into the side off DD's knee - Not sure how it happened - I think she started to move forward in case of a bunt attempt.
Dropped her like a rock.
The 1st and only time I every saw her cry in a game She litterally crawled and tried to stand up to no avail.
The scariest moment as a parent is when you see it happen to your kid and you watch from the side lines.

bruised, black & blue,Ice pack and back in the next game ...
Gotta love these girls - tough as nails:eek:

My dd worst injury- May 23, 2009 @ Expressway Park in Milford. She was plowed over while trying to tag the runner out at 3rd base. Unfortunately- she was knocked to the ground so hard she began to have seizures right there on the ground in front of us. I had the worst seat because I love sitting close to 3rd base and I seen it all. Ambulance was called- taken to the hospital with a head injury/concussion. Very scary!! Of course, she kept asking what happened (short term memory loss) **This was the first and hopefully, the last time that I will ever see this happen to anyone. The runner didn't even try to slide.

That would be enough to make you charge the mound:lmao::lmao:

After three years of Little Card Football she has learned restraint.
She still does like to mix it up and plays a very physical game; she also knows not all players have the skills either physically or mentally when playing at the highest level and she will be hit etc. (She also likes to challenge the opposition and at times that means she will be hit or run into).
Most of her female players do not get the MMA training or other activities so, what she dishes out is generally much worse than what she receives however; those that know her know she will give credit when credit is due when she gets her bell rung .
She is tough and takes it in stride most of the time usually, handing the ball to the catcher when she is hit.

Before a Middle School game.

At Nagel, our team was getting in some batting practice out in the grass. My older dd walked behind the batter WITHOUT HER HELMET ON and the batter fouled one straight back and into my dd's mouth. The coach calls me over (I was near the infield talking to some parents) and my dd was bleeding from the inside of her upper lip. She ended up with a couple of slightly loose teeth, a deep cut on the inside of her upper lip, and the lip was very swollen and discolored.

She played the whole game and did well. We took her to the dentist the next day and everything was fine. However, the left side of her upper lip slightly droops to this day, and this occurred in 2008.

In all, we have been very fortunate concerning injuries in softball.

This was a player on my DD team: The girl is on third, coach calls a squeeze ,batter puts down a perfect bunt, girl is stealing on the pitch. The umpire does not see the runner, he comes out to make the call at first. The girl coming home runs over the umpire, 8 stitches to the runners lip, And she was wearing a helmet with a mask. Its not the worst injury could be the strangest!

DD(a pitcher) and her catcher of 5yrs were 14 last season playing on a 16u team there was a play at the plate our first baseman threw the ball to catcher, the runner came hard from third didn't slide, ran into the side of catchers knee where pads dont cover, hit her so hard she flew sideways in the air hit the ground hard , tried to get up- couldn't.she had an impact fracture needed 3 pins a cast all the way to her to her waist. you could hear the impact all over the ballfield it was horrible.she is still in therapy -this girl is an amazing catcher- hopefully she will be able to play again!

Yes, dd has recovered. It was a very scary site to see your daughter on the ground having a seizure. (That was my first time and hopefully my last time seeing that happen). Luckily- we have a mom that is a nurse/paramedic on our team. She basically held my daughter down just to make sure she was fine- then her eyes rolled up and she began to start shaking. I can still see it- very scary! My dd is a very tough player- bruises and scratches over all of her body- she loves Softball. Thanks for asking about her.

Other game: We also had a pitcher on our team that had a line drive back to her and smacked her right in the face. But the player got back on the mound a couple to three weeks (I think) later this time with a face mask. I believe in the face masks 100%!

it is one of those things you will never get everyone to agree on if i were coaching an older team where the girls have been around i dont think i would make it mandatory but would definately give my opinion.at younger ages they dont have knowledge or skill level yet maybe they do but i dont trust it yet

Other game was at Goshen, wasn't it ? If so, that was the scariest sight I ever saw and never want to see ever again.

Not my DD but a few years back she and I was catching a game (in-between our games) a few years back at the NSA A 14U world series. Pitcher took one right off the grill. The only thing keeping her teeth in was her braces but they were defiantly dangling. Ugly seen, split her from lip to nose.

I read once that most facial injuries in softball happened during drills, many times before a game when several balls are flying around.

Yes Tim, that was in Goshen with Amanda Schmidt. Our girls finished the game then visited her in the Emergency Room. I really don't understand why face masks aren't mandatory. My dd wears hers. I've gone to lots of games - high school and travel - and I just look at the pitcher without the mask and I just hope and pray that nothing goes back to her.

The worst injurie I've ever seen was the abuse by a coach that knew nothing about the game and how to treat people. My daughter is a better person after playing for a person like this!

DD's worst injury was a severe ankle sprain while playing in a tourney down in Fairborn a few years back. Had a nice shot to the outfield and was rounding first base and it just popped and she went down. Was able to crawl back to the base and then she lost it. I've never seen her in so much pain.

I have worked with a pitcher between her sophomore and junior year who hurt her ankle running to first on a bang bang play. She came down on her right ankle and punched a hole in her cartilage. The surgeon who examined it allowed her to play her junior year with the understanding surgery would be done after her summer travel season. She played with her leg bone and ankle bone rubbing together. She went on to pitch her high school team to two 20 win seasons, one before and one after the surgery. And put up state record book numbers! The surgery done was like Greg Odom's knee. It isn't a fix just a repair. She now is on a college team and still pitching very well. Her biggest challenge was making her coaches understand that constant pounding by running on concrete or on stairs was very painful. This wasn't a sprained ankle and there is not replacement for cartilage yet.She is part of a study and when she is done will probably have a second surgery to have a hopefully FDA approved replacement. She is a gamer!

We've been lucky, DD's worst injury was a bad bone bruise on the wrist while catching. The top of the 1st inning in the 1st game of the week, the leadoff batter STRODE BACKWARDS toward DD then swings with a huge casting loop and the bat smacks her glove hand. Insult to injury was the catcher interference call. It ballooned up immediately but after a quick trip for an XRay she was back on the bench by the end of the game, ****ed it up and played the rest of the tournament.
