This varsity winter league, first pitch of the first game, dd took a line-drive right to the crease between her leg and the pelvic region. Dropped her like a bad habit. She never cried, got back up walked it off and only gave up one more hit for the entire game (to the same girl that hit her). It was a HUGE bruise on both areas and she was sore for weeks.

She learned a very important lesson; never under estimate the ability of a HS player to hit off her. LoL For seven years I have been after her to wear a mask when she pitches, now she is considering it.

Her worst injury was actually in her freshman year, stealing second, no throw, as she pulls up and touches second she steps on the edge of the bag and rolled her ankle. High ankle sprain ended her season.

Um, you don't want me to report on the worst injury I ever saw. Suffice it to say that it didn't involve my DD but it still had me, as a pitcher's mom, in tears. The good news is that the pitcher in question was back on the mound in six weeks.

I've seen a ton of knee injuries from sliding into bases wrong. The line shots to the faces are the scariest though. I've seen it a few times and it scares the cr@p out of you no matter who the kid is. I hope she is feeling ok, tell her to be strong and don't be afraid to get back in there!! Good luck!!

Last year my dd was in 5th grade and pitched in a tournament for the 7th grade team she hit one to the fence and when she slid into 3rd she caused two stress fractures in her back. That was by far the worst for her.A long road back to recoverey.

You know, i just don't understand why the governing softball organizations do not make wearing masks for the younger age groups MANDATORY! I also cannot figure out why some PARENTS aren't smart enough to get a mask for their kids if they play up front either.

I've seen way too many injuries like this. The younger kids just don't have the quick reflexes to get out of the way of a hard hit liner.

Come on, people, smarten up!

I do hope your daughter gets well soon. Consider this a lesson learned and do the smart thing and buy her a mask.

2 weeks ago in an indoor game my 9th grade dd was playing 3rd. She jumped to catch an overthrow, when she landed she rolled her ankle. Thought it was just a sprain, ended up breaking her ankle, now shes out for 12 weeks. This is the worst softball injury she has had and it being at the start of her freshman season, shes not taking it real well.

Last summer in Dayton, July 19 to be exact, there are 2 outs, Runner on 2nd, batter hits a blooper to right field between Rightfielder and the Foul line... Batter is trying to stretch a singal into a double to allow the runner that was on 2nd to score the go ahead run. my DD whom plays SS, went to cover 2nd and the righfielder throws to 2nd to get the final ou of the inning. The batter who was a little bigger than my daughter, is running full tilt, the throw is a little short on the first base side of 2nd base, my dd catches the throw as the batter is arriving, DD makes the tag prior to the runner scoring, inning over. DD comes to dugout, says coach, I need my dad, I think I broke my hand. I come to the dug out, she slowly removes her glove, then the stinky batting glove...(Injury to father;s nose) and her left thumb is swelling before my eyes...

She is 2nd to bat she is going to just stand in the box, in hopes of a walk, but when she brushes her bat against her thumb she starts crying out. We take her to the local hospital and yep...broken thumb, casted it next day at orthopedic Doctor's office out for next 6 weeks. She did pinch run in last tourny though... Still today... gets a little sore...

I broke by thumb on a tag at 3rd about 3 years ago (she was out too!!) and it still hurts sometimes. That is a hard injury to heal up.

My dd was running to first based and her left cleat caught on the base and she came down full weight on her right knee.Found out later that she broke the fluid sack above the knee cap.
Finished playing that game (she was the starting catcher for high school)
She only missed one game.Turned black and blue before she was finished playing.

Not my dd but a girl she played with last year at 10u- the girl went to bunt and took a wild pitch right across her knuckles - split her hand wide open- just looking at her fingers we knew several were broken....

Knee problems kept DD out of the circle her senior year in college, so they put her in center field. As a pitchers dad I always feared the worst, a liner to the face. So NOW I could relax, no more chances of that happening. NOT SO FAST. In the NCAA tournament , playing at Arizona against Auburn in the 9th inning OSU up 1-0 a ball was hit directly between left field and center. Both girls (DD and her best friend) were sprinting to area where the liner was going to come down. They both called for the ball at the same time, neither heard the other. They collided running full speen. DD got the worst of it. Her left knee hyperextended backward so far it dislocated and tore her PCL. The ball was caught, and OSU won that game, only to lose to National champ AZ 6-3. She went out giving 100%. Two surgeries later her knee is fine.

My dd was 6 and took a line shot to the face and nose. She was playing pitcher mound and was very efficient at it. The batter was very strong for her age and my dd didn't get her glove up in time. She had played that position since she started into softball. I was coaching and bent down on one knee in the dugout when it happened. You think the worst when you look at her laying on the ground and when she sprung up crying with the blood flowing, your heart stops. We rushed her to the hospital and were given great news that her nose was not broken. It took her another season and a move to ss before she finally came back as the aggressive player she was in the past. She now wears a Rip It face guard and is 10 years old and pitches and plays short stop. Aside from her being injured, we had just lost our insurance benefits right before that happened in 2006. Very trying times, but she bounced back nicely and we are very thankful how things came out.

DD was catching and there was a play at the plate. Runner came in hard and throw was there. Runner took the feet out from under my DD and she landed full force on the runner. Runner tried to bat her next time up to avoid the out, we didnt make her, let them bat around her. We thought it was just a bump on runners arm, turned out to break her forarm. Girl was out for most of the summer, but still at the games to support her team.

My daughter's injury has taken 2 years to totally heal. It started with a strained calf muscle after an OSU camp in June. She started to pitch in the Whitehall tournament and the pain was so bad we took her to the ER with what we thought was a stress fracture. ER didn't see anything told her to stay off of it, they said it was still the strain. Took her finally to a sports dr. at Max Sports and had an MRI and turns out it was a stress reaction. Sits out until the very last game of the summer when the dr. calls and gives her the OK to play. Tries out for volleyball injures it again. Another year of PT, sitting it out. By the time HS ball comes along is better. Summer ball doing well. Pitching great! End of season tries out for volleyball...you guess it...out again. Jumper's knee. Missed two years of try-outs. Many teams said they remembered her during the summer, but she never got to actually try-out. Now she's at a trainer and doing great and FINALLY getting to do the things we know she can do without pain. We hope it's the end of the pain.

I think all of us parents get nervous for collisions, hit by pitches, sliding, etc. Years ago my sister was playing at nationals in Gerogia, was rounding 2nd base full speed, slipped and hit a sprinkler that was sticking out of the ground. Major lacerations and did some damage to her knee. Ended up going to the ER down there and her weekend was finished.

Youngest daughter, our last year in IL had just pitched a perfect game, in the first of a double header. Hard line drive hit to the gap of right and left field during the second game. Boo was playing Right and called the ball as she is stepping all the weight onto her left leg, the centerfielder (who by the way was 20 lbs lighter) clipped her in the right shoulder. Boo keeps control of the ball, but some how lands with the glove down. Stands up throws the ball in then passes out. . .run out and as she comes to she tell us her left hand hurts. Her coach, thank goodness was a EMT slowly pull her glove off and screams for the med cart. . .Sad to say, she broke her thumb in two at the growth plate. Surgery with screws and cannot catch a ball without extrem pain to this date. . .C'est la vie!

My daughter was playing SS in a slow pitch game at 12U three years ago and took a bad hop off her nose and broke it in the winner's bracket finals. After an emergency room run, and two hours later, she was back playing OF in the first game(Since we had to be double dipped), then SS in the second game.
I was proud of her toughness to say the least. We ended up getting Double dipped by a team from Georgia.

dd pitched a 1 hit shut out and came to dugout at end of game and heard her teammates ask, " Did we win".

No doubt the worst injury she's ever had. It was our last rec league game. LOL!
