sometimes you cant help it get in losers bracket and you might play 5-7 games that day to get out of it.i try to get them to eat fruits and light foods but they have to have energy and alot of times a long break at a tourny can be 2 hours on a busy weekend eat up

two things I learned in my years are:

Hydrate the day before the game not the day of the game and, two, take in protein and complex carbs the meal 2 hours before the game(s)...but when the games are on top of each other and there will be no time for a better meal, the best thing to do, I would think, is to eat light but still try to make it protein or a form of carbs that is not simple...don't want to burn out on a sugar rush/crash.

I'll keep a small jar of peanut butter in a cooler because I am diabetic and I try to ward off the low blood sugar numbers. But I am thinking of keeping more of it on hand to keep the kids energized without taking the crash.

Prefer not eating right before games. As mentioned above, if in losers bracket and playing one after the other then fruit is a must with plenty of liguids. No greasy food.

I agree with the post up there about circumstances. At times you just can't help it. It would also be difficult to dictate that you can't eat because you don't know an individuals energy level, etc. All you can do is recommend what to eat and the timing of it and hope that the girls and parents do the best they can. And knowing full well that many won't.

I think if a coach says no to a certain food types then they should lead by example.

While its not obviously not ideal to eat right before a game and will tell my team that, at the end of the day I don't think its any of my business to dictate that. I also know my own daughter's metabolism seems to be such that she feels better when she eats something between games.

One thing I do is offer the team I know I am going to play a round of Chilie dogs; .......no one has taken me up on the offer yet.

Sometimes there is nothing you can do about it. We keep light food and fruits in a cooler with us for snacks, but when they are hungry, they must eat!! My rule is no walking tacos, cheese fries, chili fries, chili nachos, cheeseburgers, or anything heavy and greasy. If you don't let them eat, they are lethargic and have no energy.

first of all as much as we as coaches want to be in control there is no way you can tell a young lady she is not allowed to eat.

teenage girls have an appetite and metabolism unmatched in the universe, the last thing you want is for them to be playing and thinking about how hungry they are

Never had an issue or problem with this. Our dd sometime will eat cut fruits, others pound down some grease.
Only thing you seem to see is they never remember to use the bathroom before the game after drinking alot of fluids, LOL!

We have been with teams or known of teams that will bring out a full blown feast for their girls while hanging out in their little tent village.
Keep them away from the coaches beer they will be alright! :D

As an athlete myself, I never noticed any ill effects from eating right before a game. But I do remember being hungry during a game. I would not suggest eating a whole lot before a game, but a quick burger isn`t going drag a player down. I would not advocate fries anytime, much less within an hour before a game. Those types of carbs might induce a "carb coma" in an hour or so. Sometimes dehydration can feel like hunger. I have always understood drinking water(not soda) is a good thing all day long.

Not a problem... unless the game is being played in a swimming pool. Then they must wait 30 minutes after eating before going in the game. ;)

I always try to pack a few turkey sandwiches, apples, pretzels, fruit, juice boxes, gatorade, etc... for every day at the tourney. My dd(a junk food lover) hates to eat, especially concession stand food, before or between games. If it's right there in the cooler, I can usually get her to take at least a few bites.

I try to pack food that is light, fruits & veggies, granola bars, etc. along with bottled water and G2. We don't do concession stand food until after the last game, if even that.

Eating inbetween games isn't a problem, what they eat and how much is where the issues arise. Usually a good long, fast paced run to start warm-ups will purge any excess. LoL

Go ahead - indulge! The first time they "paint" the outfield grass with a warm milkshake/walking taco mix, they will learn their lesson. Experience is the best teacher. :lmao:

The coach has no control over how, when or what a kid eats. However, the coach DOES control the lineup, and witnessing a display lacking in common sense can be a huge part of his decision making process. "Food" for thought...
