Ok. I know someone out there will be able to help me out. My dd catches and when she does she wears a padded inner glove. She has also begun to wear it instead of her batting glove on that hand. Anyways we just bought her a new one because no matter how much I wash the old ones her hand stinks so bad after a game. Well after wearing it a couple times we are in the same boat. I mean it stinks so bad I want her to hold her left hand out the window. Any suggestions, tricks of the trade to eliminate that smell?

Wish I had a suggestion for you, but the DD just likes to shove hand in your face after a long hot day of ball - "hey Dad, smell this!!"

The expert on this is Kavin Morgan as he works for P&G and makes different scents.

If anyone would know it would be him.

DD's glove from last year smelled sooo bad that I made her get a new one (she broke it in during the off season). Needless to say, she was not happy at all to replace her glove but I agree- that thing smelled so bad you could smell her coming, the trunk of the car smelled, her bat bag smelled, and it would cause her hand to smell hours after she played! We tried baby powder/talcom powder; leaving it outside to air out; bounce sheets over night; athlete's foot spray (someone had told us it was a fungus that caused the odor); still didn't help! I kept the glove (its in the shed) just in case we find a cure for the stench.....hopefully someone will know what to do:confused:

Try getting those 'sneaker balls' and putting them in the gloves while they are stored in the bag. They are air fresheners for stinky shoes.

In the hockey world, smelly gloves are such a common problem that there are quite a few companies that market anti-microbal spray to combat it. A quick Google search should turn up a few different brands.

A light cleaning with an orange-scented hand cleaner, like Fast Orange or Go-Jo- which also contain lanolin that's good for leather- might help. This is what I use on the dirtiest, grungiest gloves I clean.

If excess sweat/moisture has soaked into the glove, cleaning the outer surface might not solve the problem. You might have mold or mildew forming in the interior padding or the "backside" of the leather..."where the sun don't shine". For a really bad case, I might disassemble the glove and clean the insides and padding (which might be beyond the scope of the typical player or parent).

One other tip I have read, but never tried myself: Since mold, mildew and bacteria are living things, you need to kill them to get rid of the smell. Put your glove in a plastic bag, then put it in the freezer for a couple of days. This should kill any bacteria or growth that is making your glove funky.

There is no cure for it. My 2 sisters and I played from the time we were 5 through college, and my oldest sister's gloves and hand always stunk! My younger sister and I wore the same stuff and we never had that problem. It is just the way her sweat reacts to the leather. She has the same issue with leather watch bands. We've tried dryer sheets, lotions, purell, lemon juice, EVERYTHING!! It just won't go away. I grew up, confined in the back seat with that rotten smell most of my childhood. It gives me the chicken skin just thinking about it!!

Thats one I have not heard, the chicken skin. That is hilarious.
I wonder if Dr. Scholls foot powder would help in the short term. We use it on my DD's cleats. Man, that girl has some rank feet. If it were legal, I would make her ride in the trunk and throw the shoes away.

Ok reaching here... Oxyclean? Charcoal is used to absord smells in specialty air filters maybe that?

if all else fails, just plain old gasoline for a different smell :)

This is what we use for our DD after she plays Ringette (like hockey) She's a goalie and also for softball. No more killing us in the car.

We mix the below solution up and keep a spray bottle in her bags. Just spray a shot in the hand and rub together. It really works. Also, you can make up zeolite bags to insert in the glove when not using and it absorbs the moisture and removes the odor. A large bag can be purchased at Walmart (brand called OdorOut). Just make up small nylon bags up with the stuff. http://www.ecowise.com/product_info.php?products_id=593

Hand Spray
Non-alcohol hand sanitizer liquid (can be found at Wal-Mart) Tea Tree Oil, Peppermint oil, and Marjoram oil (these are essential oils can be found at Loblaw?s Holistic section)
I basically put 4 - 6 drops of tea tree to 250 ml of non-alcohol sanitizer.
Then 4 ? 6 drops of peppermint and marjoram oils. Shake a bit and put in a spray bottle. The sanitizer comes in spray bottle at Wal-Mart if you buy it there. I just picked up a metal bottle at dollar store to keep liquid safe as plastic bottle could get cracked in hockey/ bag
