Well, justawondering, I would go straight to the "people in glass houses" comment.
I have had experiences - both rainy and not rainy - at Beavercreek and with Bob's tournaments. When the weather works - it is a great tournament. When it doesn't, the refunds are prompt and fair. Maybe it is true that there are not superhuman efforts to work on the fields, but the one tournament we were rained out, not even ohioquakerman's helicopter squad could have salvaged.
If he has connections that allow him to get use of those fields and promote youth events - good for him. That is the government giving back to the people. In terms of making "boatloads" of money, I doubt it. The Beavercreek tournaments are some of the lowest entry fees around, and there really are fixed costs that go into staging a tournament - even if it does not happen.
If Bob has a boat, it is probably a rowboat, and I doubt he can afford oars.
And by the way, I don't really know Bob personally - these are my observations from staging teams into two or three tournaments over the past two or three years.
