I think I did melt today. Or at least lost a coating like a MM does.

Was dry in about 1 minute after getting out of pool. Thank god this is our weekend off for the 16U. Our 18U will be in Strongsville............HOT!

Umpired tonight, solo game, 18u rec league with a 2 hour time limit. The strange thing was that despite the 101 degree temps this wasn't even in the top ten for the most miserably hot games I've ever worked.

Humidity was only about 35% and there was a steady breeze- that made it bearable.

The all-time worst was probably in Zanesville at the Jamborie last year! Mid-90's with humidity to match, heat index over 105, and we were out there all day long. Absolutely miserable. Had one umpire disappear in the middle of the game- found him puking in a port-a-potty.

not looking forward to the heat bath this weekend. Keep the ambulances close by... we saw an umpire drop during a game when it was a whoa is me 93-96 a couple weeks ago at Expressway Park. Same place this weekend and you know the forecast is even worse. Good luck to those battling in the heat this weekend.

It wasn't the heat that tried to kill us today in Wilmington...it was the wind!!!

....I remember pulling into Virginia with a 14U team in tow several years ago and hearing the radio announce "it's 102 with a heat index of 112 and tomorrow should be hotter..." Pretty sure more coaches went down than players though. :cap:

Not anywhere I've been. I've seen 30 minute "cool down" periods added in between the back to back games along with liberal placement of misters.

Has a game or tournament ever been called for heat?

I've not seen them called, but when 12 yr old DD was playing in her rec league tourney game Saturday, the ump told the coach "no water breaks" during the game. He just called time out instead - and let them grab a quick drink. No extra time between her games; they actually moved them up in time.

the heat got to us finally Sunday. It was 101 on the van temperature guage both days... my guess is on the field a couple more degrees. Saturday was doable... the hydration efforts lasted all day. Sunday, hydration efforts leading up to that point was gone for sure after game 1 Sunday and then it's a battle as to who can go the longest. Very scary moment for our pitcher but she is ok now. We do a pretty good job of managing the girls and the heat nearly won...
