Pitching and Pitchers Discussion 10U pitcher throwing 55 MPH? Really?

I've been in this business long enough to know that rumored speeds on pitchers may not necessarily be what they are claimed to be. It is rare enough to find that girl who can throw 50 mph with a batter in the batters box during a game. Word on the street is that we have a 55 mph 10U pitcher among us.

Is this for real? Has anybody gotten her on a real gun? I'm not talking about a pocket radar or daddy's estimation?or this is what her pitching coach says. Has anybody seen the digital readout on a gun that shows speeds like this in a game situation?

10?
55?

Hmmmph

Absolutely. My youngest nugget just completed her 6th year in 10u this past summer and I have absolutely seen some girls in 10u who can hum it. I've gunned them myself and I have seen the actual readout when others have gunned them. 10-15 years ago, it was pretty rare but in the past 6 years I have seen quite a number of young pitchers who can bring the heat with surprising accuracy. If you are at good tournaments through the summer, you will see a few as well. If you're lucky enough, you might get to play against them and see if your girls can bring it.

I could believe it . Not sure that a 10u stays at 55 as her game speed but you didn't really say 55 during the game . But just putting her on the gun during a workout ? yeah I could believe 55 for sure . I've got a 11u hitting 52 occasionally , so an exceptionally large early developing kid hitting 55 doesn't shock me at all, impresses me , but not shocked. Ca Grapettes had a 6' 1 " 11u kid at nationals in Montgumery Al in 2007 .

We were at the Summer Stingrays Showcase down at Coffey Park last year. Was just down there with my eldest daughter an 8 year old, showing her the atmosphere, and making sure that this is what she wanted to be a part of with soon-2-be tryouts coming up! Wasn't affiliated with any program or organization... I'm a small private school athletic director and brought our jugs gun down to see what the speed really was to train her before she hit the tryout road. Most teams #1 were throwing 46-45, but we saw two girls that were really bringing with accuracy. We saw many games, but not all of them....Not sure the Last Names of the girls, but The ace on on the Laserswhite was consistently hitting 52-53 against the Indy Gators and the Ohio Storm ace was consistently 55-56 against the Stingrays Mason team. So I totally believe that there could be a girl around the area that could be somewhere around that mph and accurate.

The smaller ball helps so I believe there will be a few that break 50 and even 55. Some of them are able to take that speed to bigger ball but many of them struggle with that as 11 year olds, it is an adjustment especially if they have smaller hands.

There was a 10U pitcher a couple years ago everybody said was throwing 60. I had to see it for myself and I clocked her at 52. Which is bringing it from 35 feet, but often times daddy's radar needs calibrated.

Unless there are two Sundogs teams in 10U...the team will be there!
Sundogs-Williams is on the team list. Dunno if that's the team or not. I suppose we'll all know soon enough.
Folks...I trust my $500 + Jugs gun...will gun them all!

Chris, I believe there is more than 1 Sundogs 10u team. Believe it...if you don't find a girl throwing that hard at Spano, I am sure there is atleat one. Keep in mind it is February and any pitcher occasionally hitting that speed may be hitting it much more consistently in July-August. Especially at 10u, where they can grow a lot in 6 months. I heard of some crazy fast #'s that 10u pitchers where hitting at ASA/USA this past year.

So chris what u are saying if a pitcher hits 55 on a rev fire but you only get her at 51 on your 500$+
Jugs gun they are just flat out lying? Who cares! it is what it is. if your team can catch up with it at 51 then I'm sure if it's 55 they'll catch up with it all the same. Right?

Ive been around along time , ive seen 10 u girls throwing low to mid 50s a few times, being able to hit your spots at that age and speed is even more impressive. It defiantly can be true , jus cause it is not happening in my backyard , does not mean its not happening .

Ok This is a bit out of control. That would be my kid your talking about and the reality is I could care less what you think Glory guy. We never once said she could hit 55! She was clocked yesterday. 2 Pocket Radars at same time during a game. 50. Very accurate at 47 to 49. Flat change at 33/34 the drop is her best pitch and it does move! There is the scouting report. So stop the ****. And we will see how fast your kids put it out on her this year I guess.

My daughter is a pitcher, my daughter throws heat, her pitching kept us in a lot of games at 10u , however at 10u your focus should be effective base running and eliminating defensive errors. This is a team sport, and while a great pitcher can keep you in games, she cannot earn you any runs. Be sure you can score! My dd first no hitter was a 5-0 loss, drop thirds and the other team's aggressive base running was a brutal awakening. Let's start a thread about the big offensive teams out there, that will be an exciting topic!

Thank you DOKelm. I 100% agree. We have a solid little team and there are no egos or attitudes. We have multiple pitchers that will share time. Best chemistry I have seen. It kind of gets to me when people insinuate. I was a bit offended when I read this thread, especially when the Daddy word was dropped. Truth is we have a really fun , hard working group of girls. We have hopes of winning some tournaments and if we do it will because we can hit and defend! We fully expect to run into a lot of pitchers that can bring it and we are excited to have the chance to see how we compete.

Is it possible for a 10-U to throw 55? Yes. Is it extremely unusual for a 10-U to throw 55? Yes. Do some parents and pitching coaches exaggerate how hard their girls throw? Yes. Is it OK to ask a general question in this Forum as to whether a 10-U can throw 55? Yes. Is it a bad idea to single out a 10 year old in this Forum unless it's a true compliment and not a somewhat sarcastically worded question? Yes.

We would love to have a pitcher throwing 55mph on our team! It would be one heck of a 1 - 2 punch. Do you know where this girl is?
