12U Pre-Season Coaches Poll

WOW...I was logged off for the weekend and missed some serious B.S. I could've told everyone that a post like this would not follow up with names, teams or facts...lol ::)

Hey Moe, I liked your idea on another thread, about all the top teams getting togather in C-Bus next month (April 19th& 20th). Could you imagine a tourney with...

Lasers Silver
Lasers Gold
C.O. Stingrays
Valley Extream White
Ohio Emeralds
Cincy Doom 95
Cincy Static Black
Ohio Top Guns
Scioto County Wild Thangs
Buckeye Heat 95
Ohio Ice
Ohio Roadrunners

Not only would it be a great idea and great competition, but more importantly it would better prepare all of these teams for there Nationals, whether it be ASA, NSA, Pony or USSSA.

IMHO, this is why the younger age groups (10U &12U) from Ohio don't usually place high at Nationals. An exception to this was last year when the Slammers, Lasers Silver and Valley Extream-Kiser followed eachother around and also played a few tourneys up at 14U.

Again IMHO, all the head coaches for these teams should check out all the other top teams schedules, and try to play in as many tourneys togather as possible, and then each team should fare much better at the end of the year at whatever National each choose to attend.

Does anyone else have any ideas on how to get all these teams in a centrally located event???

Great post, Coop. I agree. I also agree with the post about playing upward. In fact, my daughter hasn't played a game of 12U since she was 10. She'll pitch a couple of 12U tournament games as a favor to a friend of mine this summer. He wants a couple of trophies for his organization. Other than that, she'll play 14U as a shortstop and pitcher as she did last year at 11. And she'll play 18U as a shortstop. She's a good pitcher, but she's a better shortstop. She could start for any high school team in our area right now, but they don't let 6th graders play. As for letting you know who she is--- I hope you never know. That will mean that she's blending in just fine at the highest levels for the next few years.

I didn't think so many crazed softball parents would respond so negatively to finding out that there's a really good young player out there that they don't know about. LOL. The only reason I mentioned anything is that I found the 12U poll sort of silly. Whoever has a dominant pitcher is the best team. I've see a lot of 12U teams and I'd be pretty impressed if any of them could get on the scoreboard against this kid. But because the only goal is to make sure that she gets a college education that I don't have to pay for, I'm only interested in making sure that she plays against competition that will make her better.

Along those lines, and this forum seems to offer proof of that, it is difficult for that rare player to find the kind support she needs to develop her talents to their fullest. My daughter couldn't even play for a local 14U travel team last summer because they wouldn't let an 11-year-old be on the team-- even though she was obviously the best player. So, she played in another city and threw a two-hit shutout against the team that wouldn't take her (and drove in four runs). Politics and jealousy.

truth: I don't know what 18-U tournaments she'll be playing, but if she happens to go up against my 18-U team, please come up and introduce yourself. If she is truly doing that and is as good as you say, she will get all the support she can imagine from me and I'm sure other coaches as well. If she can hit my 18-U pitchers (not to mention those on Grand Slam, Lasers, Classics, Stingrays, Ice, Wolfpack, etc, etc, etc), then she'll definitely be a great, great 12 or 13-year old player.

But we'll need to know who she has before we can support her. I'm not sure how anyone would support an anonymous person.

Thanks, Joe. I'll bet she'll be in several tourneys this summer against those teams. I'll look you up.

Don't over look Miami Couty Blaze 12u. Great coach, good with the kids. Watch for Alex Cox. As a pitcher last year for the Valley Storm, she went 7-0. She has dramatically improved over the winter months. I look for good things to come from this girl.

She is an all around great player. Good Stick also. Heart of gold.

No one will see a 12-year old 6th grader playing shortstop against the above-mentioned 18U teams.

Don't bet on it. And she won't be 13 until November. She won't just play against those 18s; She'll play very well. Makes all the plays at short. Strong arm from the hole. Turns the double play with speed and grace. Very quick bat. Stands 25 feet from the jugs machine when it's throwing 60 and hits line drive after line drive. Then she backs off to 43 feet and leaves the bat on her shoulder until the ball is half way there and smokes it to all fields. Fabulous bunter, too. Some day when Team USA is touring and she's playing, you'll remember this post and you'll say, "I remember when her dad was talking about her on the forum. He wasn't just blowing smoke."

Too funny Classics. ;D

Truth--- if you've been visiting OFC or other softball chat sites for any amount of time, you have to have expected the response you received, lol.

Most all of us probably feel the same way about our dd's, but the rest of us have learned to keep it to ourselves. ?

We all think our girls are worth crowing about, but realize it would be immodest. ?

I can't speak for everyone, but I would be embarrassed to be caught posting that kinda smack, and the dd would probably kill me. ? ;)

I hope everyone realizes my post was sarcasm and in not in support of the truth.......His post actually reminded me of the commercial from thetruth.com the adds that attack tobacco companies about the "magical amount"..definately a little to the high side.

How could we say we knew of her when she makes Team USA if we don't know who she is or who she plays for? This guy is just messing with everyone IMO.

Back on topic, Bink I would love to see that columbus tourney filled with some of those teams you mentioned. Hey Valleyextreme12, we would love to see you guys down here. Your program is awsome, it would be a lot of fun to run into you guys that weekend. Cincy Static black we hear really good thing about you guys, hopefully you'll be able to make it. Projected forcast is 75 degrees and sunshine for this tourney.

Bink, what an awesome idea! It would be great to see all that talent in one place before nationals. I think the girls would greatly benefit from it. For me, I am in awe of some of the girls and there talent. We were at a clinic at Akron U last month and seen this awesome pitcher. Told her and her father that she looks like a great pitcher. I don't remember her name but I'll know her when I see her. She's a freshman out of Lordstown.

Is spring here yet :-/

I guess my above post drew very little interest with all the top teams trying to get togather in different tourneys before Nationals. Although I did receive 2 PM's with interest, I guess this is a lesson that most coaches won't explore until there teams are at the 14U level, where it is common place for all the top teams to search eachother out every weekend.

Oh well, if it doesn't happen in a centrally located part of the state, like Columbus, I guess Indiana is always an option...lol.
