I know the parents of the RED team are really excited to host these top notch teams. This is concentrated compitition in an environment that we know all teams will suffer losses and it really dosent matter because we all improved our teams for the national stage. Beating weaker teams over and over produces no fruit for anyone. This is a momentous occasion for Ohio Fastpitch to step up and bring four to five teams that CAN compete on a national level. Get on the boat now while its still in port....thank you Bill for your vision and dedication to our girls. and to all the laser staff and parents...what a tight group

Really a great concept and idea. Almost "Quaker" like. Not to be confused with Quaker Life.

Just trying to figure out what is the difference between these "friendlies" and a tournament other than no hardware .. is that the only difference? Why/How can they be so much cheaper? We have been in two this fall/winter and they seem to be 1/2 the price of the tournaments. Which is awesome. Same or better competition and way less $$. So I guess I'm asking why are tournaments so much more expensive? Is it because they are team/organization fundraisers? Friendlies seem like the way to go .. who cares about hardware? Well I guess 10 & 12 year olds do .. after that it's old news.

This makes for new thread for girls...Mantle Candy or Tourney Champs t shirts? let the girls weigh in on this one:cap:

Looking forward to it Doug. I sure hope the weather is on our side this time. That was the coldest I have ever had the girls play in. Our game was exciting though, goodluck to you guys this year. I am positive you will do very well.

Sanction Fee's NSA $40 per team ASA $25 per team and $25 per age group.
Extra Umpire each game most friendlies use 1 . And Of course Hardware $200--$300 per age group.

Was also looking at some West Coast Team websites they seem to do alot of tournaments as well as some friendlies

It is? ...lol I don't have an opinion on this type of thing. If you are looking for practice games... then this is your avenue.

It's a lot less because there is only one umpire.. which in tournament play no coach would put up with.. But, in friendlies.. it is as teams know going in what to expect.

Is friendlies cancelled due to rain ? Versus Tournaments? Where $10-12 dollar a bag diamond dry is used.

Of course, there is the fundraiser event aspect of it.

I was checking out west... as everyone says this is a Western type thing.

Seems to be a huge amount of events out there.... I'm sure friendlies go on, of course.

To me, it looks like some team fundraiser tournaments are getting higher each year.. versus... individual ran events. Is this the trend as well ?

Well, I went to the Corona Angels website at these links:

18u Gold: http://www.eteamz.com/coronaangels/news/index.cfm?id=3701300&cat=0

I didn't see friendlies in their schedule. Lots of practice sessions and huge amount of tournaments.

16u site: http://www.eteamz.com/16uCoronaangels-Howard/calendar/index.cfm?date=2010-02-01

I saw one friendly in the month of February but if you go through the other months I saw practice, practice, practice and start up in June tournament events.

Am I missing something here?

Well aware of A and B level teams. Daughter has worked with Angels coach in the past. They do alot of Tournaments as well as Scrimmages (Friendlies) Point being you need both period. Also don't know who were talking to with the be seated remark but sure it wasn't me

Well, before this thread starts to head down the wrong path?

Wwolf
100% agree that you need both. We will be about 50/50 this year.

Yes I'm bringing the Shrimp! lol We sure love to eat. As the Pit. Lady Road Runners mentioned earlier, last year we did this and had a blast actually some of the mom?s even traded recipes of some of the goodies. This year we are thinking campfire and cookout (maybe I can grill the shrimp!).

TD's
We are not trying to replace tournaments. However we feel we are filling a gap, and the intent is clear. Change our format to better prepare our team for nationals. This will be done by playing the best completion as many times as possible.

One umpire / two... Isn't the real question: Can our batters hit off the best pitchers? Can our defense execute plays against the best hitting and base running? Can we steal bases on the best catching? Etc. Etc. This is our intent as well as the others who have posted so positively.

Got a few openings....

Thanks
