Smith Park has a large fishing pond, over a dozen picnic shelters, a FREE water park for the younger kids, and a playground... how much more 'friendlie' can ya get?

This concept is allowing us to play in all the $500 tourney's we can get into and still get in approx 10 weekends of good softball without having a $5,000 tournament budget... Our approach will be to win but tempered with we have to work on skills and be 'free' to be more agressive, take more 'risks' on defensive without worrying about losing a tourney game.. we will be better all the way around for it...

Well, before this thread starts to head down the wrong path?

Wwolf
100% agree that you need both. We will be about 50/50 this year.

Yes I'm bringing the Shrimp! lol We sure love to eat. As the Pit. Lady Road Runners mentioned earlier, last year we did this and had a blast actually some of the mom?s even traded recipes of some of the goodies. This year we are thinking campfire and cookout (maybe I can grill the shrimp!).

TD's
We are not trying to replace tournaments. However we feel we are filling a gap, and the intent is clear. Change our format to better prepare our team for nationals. This will be done by playing the best completion as many times as possible.

One umpire / two... Isn't the real question: Can our batters hit off the best pitchers? Can our defense execute plays against the best hitting and base running? Can we steal bases on the best catching? Etc. Etc. This is our intent as well as the others who have posted so positively.

Got a few openings....

Thanks
TRB

Least I don't have to cook this time :)

Well said Coack Lenos. At the end of the day you saw the most out of outstanding pitching in four to six games. As I mentioned before, in this format everybody stands to lose a game, but everyone wins at the end of the day because we all got better from playing lose against high caliber teams. You will also get to see what gels for you line-up wise, play girls in multiple positions(cross train), and prepare for the big tourney's down the road...i.e. Nationals. Plus we get to break bread, have fun and let the girls engage a little easier socially. WIN . WIN FOR EVERYONE INVOLVED:D

Hi Tom,

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier this week, but leaving again tomorrow for another 6 days for work. I left you a PM & we are definitely in for 5/1-2 but cant do the 15/16 because we are in TN that weekend.

As everyone said before, thanks for pulling this together. At the end of the day, it makes us all better!!

Thanks,

Good job Lasers Red!!!! Wish we had thought to do the same thing two years ago. Great opportunities for the younger girls to consistently see good, high quality competition.

Jennatyui:

I, for one, either don't vote for our team in the OFC poll or vote consistently around the 8th-10th spots. I actually think the OFC poll is pretty darn close, though there definitely are some teams that fly under the radar and deserve to be in the top ten.

That said, I'm not sure why you've posted such a sour grapes reply to the efforts of TRB and the Lasers Red. Doesn't sound to me like this was some "good old boys" club. They've been open about this great project and I'm sure that if your coaches are involved in the fastpitch community, your team had an opportunity to participate.
I'm frankly getting tired of people complaining about details of the great work that others in the softball community are performing. End of rant.
