@Musty:

I never said don't criticize and I actually agree that the 16u results should be posted once the tournament is completed. I said don't charge a TD of a tournament the size of the 16 ASA States with not caring when he doesn't provide real time results from a multi-site tournament. I agree that results should be posted this week, after the TD gets more than a few hours of much-earned sleep on top of his day job responsibilities. :)

I wasn't referring to you as you never did say not to criticize. We just disagree on how easy it would be to have real time scores posted. I was referring to some threads last week after the weekend tournaments. Some people posted what they didn't like and others got on and called them whiners which I think is so wrong. Constructive criticism makes things better. They real whiners are the ones who "whined" about the criticism posted. ha

I was at the tournament when we discussed posting the scores so couldn't say much but here is how I think it can be done. They have a bracket on their web site in PDF format. All locations send in their scores to a central location. You can have a volunteer at that central location who's job it is to update the PDF document as the scores come in. They just update and save, update and save and bam you have real time scores on the web site. They could use Excel too.

Or, they could use social media for simply reporting scores. The Kentucky ASA did this via Twitter for their State tournament this past weekend. Then, do PDF or Excel every few hours to update brackets. It isn't rocket science.

Nice. Thanks for posting that. The Xpress has a team out there and I have a few friends there too. Great to be able to follow them without having to wait for the stage coach to bring word back.

You can also set up text or e-mail notifications for specific teams. Nice feature.

No they won't. They did a poor job. As an example, go to their web site and in big bold letters it says "UPDATED STATE BRACKET" but it's not. People were going there all weekend expecting something current but it never was. They started to Friday morning and just quit. They're quitters! It's about how they did everything. I didn't buy the weekend pass, paying daily and came out ahead because they didn't bother collect any money Sunday. haha

So yes it is too bad. Letting everyone see what happened at one of the biggest tournaments of the year would build interest, be good for ASA, be good for the sport, good for Ohio. Heck it would have been good for Findlay Fastpitch. Let everyone know they do things right.

I know some out there say if you criticize you are whining. They prefer you remain silent and just let things be bad, not get better. Don't bring attention to it. I say they are losers who are happy to be one! hahaha. Stay out of our way and let us move forward!! :)

Me thinks anyone org wanting to run a tournament should be required to study the Stingrays. They do fastpitch and tournaments right!

I'll let the TD know you are willing to volunteer. How many hours can he put you down for?

Are you trying to say you wanted and tried to post scores online but didn't have the manpower? You asked for volunteers and couldn't get any? Doesn't say much for Hancock County or Findlay Fastpitch if true.

Or maybe you didn't even care enough to try. Which is it?

I help my DD's school and travel teams and if I was part of your org I would gladly do it. :)

I'm sure they had the volunteers they needed to put on the tournament. At least getting a bracket (even if not updated) online is progress.

This tourney has grown from 17 teams in 2009 the first year they hosted to 63 plus the side pool. If the biggest complaints on here are a ASA matching headband rule or online updated brackets....they must be doing a whole lot of other things right.

Sorry but your reading comprehension is in question if that was the only complaints you read in this thread.

You are obviously not a goal orientated organization. Happy to just get by. This tournament draws because it is the ASA "A" State Tournament where 63 of the best of the best met to play. Nobody is going because of what Findlay Fastpitch does. What should be considered, if Findlay Fastpitch is happy to just get by and doesn't want a better product is giving someone else a chance. Lets get Stingray's to host it. They excel at hosting tournaments.

ASA Kentucky has scores online but here in Ohio we are happy to just get the bracket online. I might add the bracket and pool schedule online was WRONG. The Pool schedule was finally removed but not after many went to it during the tournament. I hope ASA Ohio doesn't share your complacency. I don't think they do outside of Ohio.

I want to express thanks to Jim Welch and everyone else associated with putting on the friendlies during states. The competition was amazing and our team was able to walk away with invaluable experience, college exposure, and self esteem going into the home stretch of our summer. Thank you Doom Gold and Buckeye Heat-Mason, both of your teams played the game at the highest level. Parents on both teams were friendly, the Heat moms really new how to cut up and were fun to sit with.

I hope that this can continue in future years, it is a real benefit to teams that are already qualified.

Who's reading comprehension is in question? Did I say "only"? No. I said biggest. Last year or the year before it was the headband thing. Who says they are just happy getting by? Last year there was no bracket available online. This year there was..i.e. progress. Did they get it right? Obviously not. Will they...I have no doubt.

It seems your very good at assuming things based on what a few people post on a message board. And no...I am not part of Findlay Fastpitch

Obviously you are not with Findlay FP. They wouldn't want this conversation continuing and you are the one who wrongly tried to claim it was the city that wouldn't allow coolers. So your idea of progress is putting a PDF on the web site. LOL

Who are you to speak for them? You just decided to jump in and debate something you weren't involved with or know nothing about? Were you even there?

If you weren't there, let me fill you in. The brackets at the different fields were posted and they started to update them but quickly abandon that. People kept going to it looking for more updates but it never happened. They could have posted a note saying they wouldn't update anymore but they left everyone hanging. The bracket was posted on the web site and they started to update it but quickly abandon that too. The fact that they put a link that said "updated bracket" had people believing it they would and returning several times looking for the update. Instead of just stopping they could have taken it down or better yet posted a note that they wouldn't be updating it but no. They started collecting admission but abandon that too. They didn't collect on Sunday so anyone who bought a weekend pass overpaid compared to the daily payers. The scoreboard operators constantly screwed up putting the wrong count and innings. Even when only one game was going on. The pool schedule was changed after it was released but they may have good reason for that but they left the wrong one on the web site most of the weekend. Now they did drag and reline after every game and the concessions were very well staffed so it wasn't all bad but overall it was poorly run. Sorry if that hurts your Hancock County pride but it is what it is.

This isn't the end of the world and not as bad as all this press your'e giving it makes it look. This discussion would have been over if you hadn't kept it going. Bet they love that. But it needed to be pointed out so it either improves or someone else takes it over. Findlay Fastpitch should want to put out a better product or service. They should want to be known as an organization that does things right. If they don't I believe they have the wrong leaders and are giving the wrong message to the kids.

I still can't believe that there are no results to be had.... Come on, Findlay, ASA, whoever.....give us the final bracket results....PLEASE. Even USSSA and NSA post the results of their tournaments. Only ASA has nothing.

OK...I guess I'll chime in with my opinion, wether warrented or not. The Tournament as a hole was ho hum in my opinion. First, the competition was best I have ever seen collected in one place. So I was impressed by the talent. Secondly, it was our firt time at Marathon Complex. I was impressed by the complex as a hole. But the complex seems to be neglected. Just general overall condition. We played on of of the fields without temp fences. That was not so good. We then played at Van Buren, by far the best venue experience for the entire weekend. We then moved on to Cooper and Rawson..Again No Temp Fences. A player on Our team hit a rocket ground ball through the right side of the infield. Home Run.....Not Good! Rawson's lights were a joke. We played OFC Blast on the final game Sat night, and was embarrased for the tourney director as that field should not have been used that late with the poor lighting. Finally, as far as the score updates, and brackets, again the organizers should be embarrassed because it is quite simple to update scores on line with the software they were using. Obviously the expectations of this type of tournament by the masses was not met. Hopefully, in the future the Tourney Organizers can take some of the info provided and improve the product.

Just my $0.02

Gotta love the money grab. From the TD:

"There are NO coolers allowed for fans inside the playing areas. Full concessions will be at Marathon Diamonds and Van Buren Sports Complex. Drinks will be at FHS fields and we are working on Cooper and Rawson. One cooler for the team is allowed in the dugout for each team."

As a member of Findlay Fastpitch and part of putting the tournament on let me set the record straight on the cooler rules at Marathon Diamonds and Van Buren. Those two complex's are ran by their respective Rec Departments and they donate the fields to us for the weekend. Their only source of revenue is the concessions. It is their policy that only team coolers come in at those fields not ours and we dont' make a dime off the concession sales at those complexes. So while I appreciate the criticism's as much as the positives and I'm taking notes on the critiques and this gives us things to improve on understand that to keep those complexes going they rely on concession sales when they have tournaments. Thanks and keep the feedback coming as we appreciate it and appreciate all the teams that came and made the tournament a huge success.

You say it could be over yet you ask more questions. lol. So I'll answer them one at a time plus add a few more comments based my past history with findlay fastpitch and volunteering at 16u states. My comments will be in bold,

Obviously you are not with Findlay FP. They wouldn't want this conversation continuing and you are the one who wrongly tried to claim it was the city that wouldn't allow coolers. Wrong huh... thank you Mr. Snapp. So your idea of progress is putting a PDF on the web site. LOL Not alot of progress but again was there anything online last year? No.

Who are you to speak for them? was part of findlay fastpitch from Aug 2009 thru Aug 2011 You just decided to jump in and debate something you weren't involved with or know nothing about? Maybe i do know a few things after all Were you even there? I knew better than to ask Mrs Wildfire if she cared if a volunteered this year after spending nearly 30 hours running scoreboards and manning gates last year. Even though I'm no longer involved with them I'll go back and work a scoreboard or sit at a gate anytime.

If you weren't there, let me fill you in. The brackets at the different fields were posted and they started to update them but quickly abandon that. My only comment was about the bracket at Marathon. Jim and/or Roger Zorn practically live at that thing over the weeked. Don't think I ever said why or why not things happened that way They started collecting admission but abandon that too. They didn't collect on Sunday so anyone who bought a weekend pass overpaid compared to the daily payers. Sitting at the gate at Marathon on Sunday is a lonely proposition(been there done that). Nearly everyone has paid by that point. Maybe they felt they weren't gonna bring enough in that day to justify someone sitting there idk. The scoreboard operators constantly screwed up putting the wrong count and innings. Even when only one game was going on. In past years the boards at marathon have been manned mostly by teenagers. Heck I've been involved with this game going on 10 years I struggled with counts and innings after 4 or 5 hours of sitting there. The pool schedule was changed after it was released but they may have good reason for that but they left the wrong one on the web site most of the weekend. Haven't you ever heard "don't believe everything you read on the net" lol. Now they did drag and reline after every game and the concessions were very well staffed so it wasn't all bad but overall it was poorly run. Sorry if that hurts your Hancock County pride but it is what it is.

Thanks for joining this thread. I guess it should have been stated before this tournament that coolers were allowed everywhere but Marathon & Van Buren. Didn't mater to me as I didn't feel lugging a cooler around anyway. ha

What about the request for posting results? Being worked on or ain't gonna happen? Why was the brackets not updated during the tournament like originally planned? Wildfire would have helped! lol

The final results should be up tomorrow on our site and I'll post on here as well for everyone. We attempted to go "all technology" this year and it failed. We learned first that the wireless that is inside the Cube ice rink at the Marathon Diamonds didn't reach the fields. We overcame that buy getting one of those wireless hubs. That was the key until the laptop being used to run the software ( which was great software, point and click and teams moves on) crashed on us. So that is when the attempt was made to update via the pdf's using a vendor laptop that was there which was ok until that vendor took their laptop. We will have that remedied next year with a backup laptop in place. Hopefully your overall experience was good with the facilities and the town. I do appreciate the feedback and have been passing it on to our board so that we can improve on things. Firm believe in "when your green you grow" and when your "ripe you rot". Meaning we'll learn from the feedback and improve as needed. We hope to see all the teams that were out there back again and once we fix this technology thing, I'll be expecting to read your rave reviews on it lol. : )

I conclude that the TD and his assistants cared about posting on the web but the technological effort simply failed. If you've ever been in the situation of failing in a project because you couldn't control the technology (I've certainly been there), you might have sympathy for the failure.
