I thought the Hawks Organization runs an ASA/USA qualifier? Did that change for this year coming up? If not then I would think at least 5 berths should be available for State, nice!!!

In 2009, there were 4 at states in Elyria, 1 at region 9, 1 at Dayton NQ, 1 at Cleveland Metro, 1 at Canton NQ

Here are some key dates for this 14U ASA State Tournament:

6/15/11 - Pool play & double elimination information will be emailed to all managers. This will get the tournament information to the teams one week prior to the tournament.

5/13/11 - Last day to have your team's paid entry form submitted to the tournament director.

Metros still have their berths.. That is separate than anything state.

Looks to me that Cincinnati kept their Metro status as well. Just hope they don't run their's the same weekend of the state tournament like they did in 2010 for the teams.

Little birdie told me back in the late summer that their was a possibility that the Zanesville area was going to get a National Qualifier for 2011. And it wasn't Ricky Moorehead either.

Does anyone feel the same way as me, that if you are a team NOT wanting to go to the Nationals... shouldn't you show up at States so more berths are passed out to the teams WANTING to go . Afterall, we all are from Ohio, aren't we ? Why not go and help the other OHIO teams and be a part of a huge, big tournament and help other teams.

Also, top placements in Nationals by OHIO teams means more berths to the Hall of Fame event that are available for teams in the Fall of 2011 tournament qualifier , as well.

As Ohioians, we have to play the "game" as well as the other states that send teams to the Nationals with their HUGE amount of teams.

The "game" starts with the teams that DON"T want the berth to the Nationals and for them to come play in the State event and play so the numbers is there.

That's how the GAME is played by other states. It's time for this State to do the same in my opinion.

Wow only 65 miles, I figured it would be Cincinnati or something south.

Now I just need a driver or better, a pilot and a helicopter

In Southern Ohio, really you figured that ? We bid on them all and supposely lost all the bids .

Have a great event Valley Extreme !!! The bet is on...LOL ... I got $5.00 on 88 -92 teams in this event in 2011. :). You only can pick 5 numbers :lmao:

Participation in local association championships has no bearing on the number of USA/ASA berths the association has to award. As explained on other posts, Ohio ASA will get 4-5 berths in 2011 based on their 2010 ASA registrations.

The GAME, as you call it, is local to Ohio States. Evidently, Ohio ASA is not willing to commit their whole allotment be awarded at States until they see how many teams enter. I don't blame them considering 2 teams declined the berths they earned last year at 14u State and Ohio ASA may not have been able to find takers for both those berths.

I find the posts wanting more berths to USA/ASA Nationals for Ohio odd because, from what I've seen, Ohio isn't using all the berths they currently get. In 2009, only three (3) 12U teams went to Normal, IL - an easy drive away (5-1/2 hours from Columbus). In 2010, two (2) 14U berths went unused as only six (6) teams went to Moline, IL - another fairly easy drive (less than 8 hours).

People should find out what Ohio ASA is planning to do with berths they don't award at States.

Also, top placements in Nationals by OHIO teams means more berths to the Hall of Fame event that are available for teams in the Fall of 2011 tournament qualifier , as well.

The 8 regions with the top PARTICIPATION in Nationals get a 2nd berth - placements are not a factor (see ASA Code 512.A). If Region 9 isn't in the top 8 of the 15 ASA regions, it's probably because not enough Ohio teams are using their berths to USA/ASA Nationals.

Your region can try to get an additional berth to the HOF Tournament by having the Regional Director request it by May 1 (see 512.G.01). ASA usually has fill-in berths available from regions that aren't using theirs.

Very nice little complex that has a good softball feel to it! We were just there 2 weeks ago. There is a state park within minutes for the fields for anybody whom wants to camp.
Will you be using the two fields down the road also, the ones that sit along the east side of the lake?

We have arrangements to use 8 fields, and yes the two fields at Bazetta Park are two of the eight. Right now the four fields at Candlelite Knolls can handle up to 24 entries. With the eight fields we have calculated being able to handle around 40 teams. We will be contacting other excellent fields in the area if the entries warrant.

Regarding number of USA/ASA berths, as I understand it, if we get a certain number of individual ASA registrations, that can also increase the berths. We have begun registering both the team and the individuals for ASA.

Mosquito Lake has a pretty nice off-leash dog park and it is only minutes from the fields.

Teams that want to Camp!

We have had other teams in the past stay at the State Park and I had only ever heard positive comments. There are several fine restuarants in the Cortland area as well.

1. Top Notch Dinner - all you can eat fish on Friday night
2. Vasilio Restaurant & Pizzaria - all you can eat fish on Friday night (my favorite fish)
3. Lake Tavern - kind of like a sports bar & has the best wings around (my favorite wings)
4. Dairy Queen - ice cream
5. Katie's Corner - ice cream
6. Grumpy's Ice Cream - ice cream
7. Los Lobo - Mexican Restaurant
8. Eat'nPark
9. Perkins
10. Cleats
11 Pizza Hut
12. Brother's Pizza
13. Pizza Joes
14. Ponderosa Steakhouse

All within five minutes of camping....
