8 more applications in the mail yesterday. As always, looking for more 10u teams. Good 10u selection so far but would like a full field of 12 teams.

I checked the website. It looks as though our webmaster took down the results from 2010 but didn't move them to 'past results' yet. I am assuming he still has the info so I am sure he will get to it as he makes 2011 additions.

With 11 days remaining, here is where we are in the way of team counts:

10u - 7 teams - 12 total spots (pretty good turnout at 10u this early)
12u - 7 teams - 12 total spots ( a little surprised, great opportunity to play against top teams)
14u - 22 teams - 21 total spots (more teams coming)
16u/18u - 62 teams - 50 total spots (a lot more teams coming based on emails)

Luv this tournament, but shouldnt a tournament of this stature pick a weekend and stay with it. I know Stingrays has had the same weekend for a long time and teams know when it is and keep that weekend open, in case they are selected. I believe GAPSS is big enough to do the same.

Not that the change doesnt help teams, (opening up the weekend for other options) but like I said, pick a weekend and stick with it. Those that want to come will.

Too good of a tournament to flip flop. Might leave doubt in stability.

Ironically, GAPPS Although a great tourny is NOT big enough from a Showcase event. TD says that due to other(meaning new and more desireable) Showcases and Individual All Star events........l(Adidas, DeMarini,......) appearently MANY other teams and individuals would rather go elsewhere. Just means there are other opportuntities that GAPPS is not able to compete with. Why GAPPS feels need to bounce around to try and preserve the orginal vision or value doesn't make sense.

Laser Nation had a Mega hit last year with their 1st annual, because there was a NEED due to the Compuware BS / Mass Exodus.

Might be time for GAPPS to take what they can year in and year out and not disrupt other orgs ONLY chance at fundraising and deal with the fact although it is a great tourney, it might never get to where they dreamed it getting to.

GAPPS used to be a great place to go for a local tune-up before Nationals. However, MOST serious Ohio Teams are leaving the state for the BIG Showcase events a couple times a summer and then want/need downtime before Nationals.

Maybe the Original GAPPS Vision and the current GAPPS value to the customer base are not aligned.

Triple - welcome to the conversation, better late than never - I guess?

I think the overwhelmingly positive feedback from the 140+ teams that have applied as well as the emails from the college coaches who said that they have it on the schedule and like the change in date and format is all I need to really hear as a TD.

And just to put it into perspective - 6 teams respectfully asked for a refund (which we happily provided) because of a commitment/desire to play in another tournament based on the date change. 6 out of 140 felt they had a better option. I'd say that's a pretty good ratio.

I'd say our 'product' is just fine and the list of teams is as strong as ever. But, we really appreciate your concern for the well-being of our tournament.

Looking forward to the list coming out.

We are too. We are waiting for the last 'postmarked' apps to hit the PO Box and then we are going to get together as a committee to go through and make the tough choices.

WOW! Then what the heck was all the Hoopla about? It sounds like it's better then ever. Please RECALL my last entry. Being in CHI Town now, I have to rely on what I read... Guess I will make a few calls to the old network before I post. Good Luck! And I hope you guys head west this summer or fall. The Sparks and Hawks tournies will be fantastic Showcase opportunities for you guys.

Should it be taken that a team is in, if your check for entry fee has been cashed? Just checking.

No. In the application we explained that we would be cashing checks on receipt and we would issue refunds for the teams that did not make it into the tournament.
