The information for this tournament was provided well ahead of time. From what I understand, it used to be held during the week and was for only metro cincy teams. Michelle has moved it to the weekend and opened it to all teams. Certainly steps in the right direction. With the right development, this could rival the Dayton Metro in terms of competition with better playing conditions. You definitely cannot complain about a team winning a berth from a tournament you chose not to attend.

I wasnt complaining about that in the least, if you can find a tourney giving out these berths and noone shows and you do, more power to you. Im basically agreeing with what you said, run it better, and it could be huge.

I will be there if the berth not obtained before then in hopes of securing it that weekend. If not... so be it. And if a team that earns it can't compete at the ASA/USA level... as we know... good luck for the blood bath will begin. And if a coach is silly enough to play their team out in a venue they don't belong just because they had an easy path, not only will the competition draw blood and drink it dry, the players and parents will surely let them know what color the blood is. Many don't care and pound their chest and assume they belong. Heck, some may say that about us. If we aren't ready... we won't go. But in the meantime, we are signed up.

It seems to me the larger questions here is there really that much of a lack of interest to play ASA/USA Nationals? Essentially the state of Ohio can send 8 total teams per age group between OH ASA (6 berths), Dayton ASA (1), and Cincinnati ASA (1). How is it possible with almost 3500 teams registered ASA in the state of OH that these National Qualifiers whether in Dayton, Shreve, or Cincinnati cannot have a waiting list?

Dayton and shreve do pretty well attendance wise, the cincy one doesnt get publicized very well at all, i doubt alot of teams see it on here when it gets bumped once every month or so. And by the time they do, their schedule is complete and paid for.

I sat thru seminars with Michelle 2 years ago at the ASA JO conference in Okla City and talked about tournies and she didnt have any idea about advertising on this site.

I wonder about the lack of interest in ASA/USA berths as well. Queen City Ultimates ran a tourney this past weekend with the 10u and 12u getting ASA/USA berths. Granted, Lasers held their tourney the same weekend, but if ASA/USA was really a team goal, I think more than 8 10u and 9 12u would have attended.

Last year there were 5 - 12U's and 4 - 14U's from OH at ASA/USA Nationals. So essentially there are awarded berths not being used.

Last year's OH teams in the 14u were: Lasers Gray, Lasers Green, Static 97, Static 98, Wizards Elite 98, Buckeye Heat 97, Doom 97, Lasers Orange

Lester - I stand corrected on the 14's. When I was looking at the number of births on ASA I only saw the top 50 finishers from LY.

Les, you said it! These things have a way of working themselves out ;). I tend to lean toward Les's approach on deciding whether we can compete or not. No sense wasting time, effort and especially $$ if you are going to get pounded just to say you were there....good luck to all teams!

Any last minute entries or any more drops? Very disappointing turnout.

it is but opening it up to all Region 9 has little affect.

Michelle, is it possible to turn this into a weeknight event like pre-this year events were? if you ask me that's preferred. Might help the park utilization situation too?
