Nope, not running for cover in any legal sense. I can assure you that nothing I said was actionable or that I posted my apology because I was afraid of being sued. I have no assets that could be subject to a creditor so if cshilt wanted to sue me in reponse to my opinion regarding his parody, it would be a hollow exercise. I spend most of my assets on volunteering as a coach. :D

Carol, You apologized for going on and on and I was making jest at the fact that its in your nature since you are an attorney. Nothing more. I appreciate your comments as I do with most on here. We all have one common goal (hopefully) and that is the girls.

Thanks jdcii, because I offered the apology sincerely. Cshilt is a fellow lemming and I just feel badly about jumping on him.

Carol has done more for the sport than I could ever dream of so I'd never take any kind of action against her. As far as I'm concerned it over. Carol is awesome and a great teacher of the game.

I can not believe I missed this mayhem. This was right up my alley. BTW cshilt, I loved the cage match post. Of course, seeing a lot of coches this year, we would have to different weight classes. You couldn't put Lenos in the same cage as say John Miller or TangyMike.....Well Doug could tag out to Herman.

lol guys. cshilt, thanks for accepting the apology, as it was sincerely offered. Others obviously saw the post for what it was intended; it just hit a little too close to home for me to think about all those girls waiting around until next weekend's try-outs and the emotional roller coaster they will be on.

OK, I've taken a deep breath and I want to apologize to cshilt for coming down so hard on his parody of my suggestion that there be one weekend for tryouts. I over-reacted, plain and simple and I probably did put words into his mouth. Sorry guys.

I'm sure Cshilt has a wife or daughters so, he's equipped to handle any overreactions thrown his way :)

I missed it to... why don't you pick the biggest coaches in softball - Miller and Mike - geesh... me and Lester go in the bantum division... lol.

The old one call close has been around in many highly respected industries for years.

Such as....
Door to door vacuum sales
in home window sales
buy here pay here car sales
water filtration sales
time share sales
and many respectable infomercials

Why not for travel softball? :p

too funny!

I hope these "accept now or you're offer will self destruct in X hours" teams keep up the marketing plans they are executing!!! We will be those DD's bailout. Since we all like bailout's these days.

I just got done speaking with a parent of a player that I have known for years and was told that their dd would not be at our tryouts this weekend. It seems that a second year org in our area is giving these families 24 hours to accept or forfeit the offer.

I am a little miffed that they are strong arming these people and playing on their fears that they may not make another team. On the other hand I think I am a bit jealous that they are grabbing up a bunch of talent. LoL

24 hours!! WoW

I personally wouldn't waist my time on an organization that is only in it's 2nd year, and I wouldn't let any organization make me commit my daughter within 24 hrs of tryouts. If and offer was made, I would give them a reasonable time frame that I would get back to them. If that wasn't good enough then I would give them an answer right then, and tell them good luck with their season!

24 hours is a joke. I'm sure they will wonder why they can't keep players for more than a year. I agree that this is purely a tactic designed to keep people from going to other tryouts and discovering that the offer really isn't that good. From what I hear it is focused on the younger age groups, most likely girls and parents that are new on the block. If they really want you than they will wait for you to go to other tryouts and respect the process. It is not a decision to take lightly.

I will say I have 2-3 spots remaining... waiting till the end to get the mix right is tough especially when you have girls that have no options (in their words) but to play with us or nobody else because the teams in their area are terrible (again in their words). Now while we sympathize, they are being reviewed just as the rest are and they want to know in a timely fashion. We end tryouts this Saturday, have to call all by Monday night. Fair enough. I will say some are no brainers and will know on our last day of tryouts.

Fair to me... tell everyone up front the timing per team/org and if others can't wait due to their situations, so be it. You have to draw the line somewhere. We have made mistakes in the past and waited to long and even got egg on our faces. Now we are much tighter (<10 days) from start to finish on tryouts to notification timing. If teams don't tell you, ask... if they are wishy washy in responding, ask why? Might be a systemic issue or an issue you should avoid. Hey, are you trying them out as much as the team is trying out your DD and family? Should be...

Oh yeah, to my point... we don't pressure them. Take a week if you need it. Just communicate with us along the way at some point. After all... its just softball:D:cap:

Glad People didn't say that about the Madness last year, as we were going into our second year. It's not about how long the organization has been in existance, it's about the strong arm tactics of 24 hours. Do your home work and realize that everyone will have good and bad experiences with "all" organizations. You need to weigh the good and bad and find the best fit for your daughter.

It has to be a coach being flexible with each situation that arrises. For instance. A player trysout for a team on a weekday, but will not have the ability to commit one way or another until the following weekend, essentially 1.5 weeks from offer. Why, because coach wants to allow the player the ability to tryout for another organization. So why not give them on until the next weekend. Yes, it will cause a back log for a week, but if I don't have my final tryouts until the same weekend, it will is a wash.

Now if I have other players it could affect, then yes a coach should have the conversation with the parent, or invite individuals they have a high interest level in back for a final look.

I agree...everyone starts at year one and builds... do your homework before righting off an upstart.

Many times you can ask the right questions during tournaments to research a team/org. And believe you me, the parents will gladly gossip if things aren't going well just as they will brag about how things do go. People love to be proud or hate something they are apart of.

LOL!

I talked to someone today who told me local org was giving them one hour to make decision. This is just hear say but that is definitely the get'em while their hot technique.

I think wedding proposals should be done this way, imagine all the marriages that would be saved.

Guy on one knee.... Will you marry me?
Woman gasps.
Guy - "BTW, this offer expires in an hour"

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Ok that is a bad analogy, still funny in my book.

Our tryouts are held for two weekends. If they showed up for the first one and I want them I tell them I would like to have you on our team just come back next week to fill out paperwork. This give them a week to think about it; They have come back the second week everytime.

24 hours might be a bit quick. Girls should be looking at the organization and coaches prior to tryouts. (during the summer). The Marion Diamonds have tryouts one weekend and ask for an answer in next couple days (unless they know immediately) to be respectful of the other girls that are not offered one of the first 10-11 spots/per team. It is not fair to leave them hanging when they may really want that spot plus it's not fair to the organization because they may lose that next in line choice. We communicate with every girl that attends tryouts even if they didn't make a team. We had over 200 girls attend our tryouts this year. If the organization is sincere about the girls, they will not have any problems getting girls to play. This is why our organization has grown every year and we have a player retention of about 90-95%. There are many, many good organizations out there, do your homework on them, talk to the coaches.

OK people keep using this term "strong arming" for this org. and all I keep picturing is this young college girl attempting to strong arm. People are saying "see if the girls come back" and just to clear things up-for one team, all but two came back to one team or another. Nothing guaranteed about keeping your spot. We received the talk from the coach (which was nice-not strong armed). We came home, talked, and made a choice. Our choice was to call the other coach that she wanted to try-out for to get a private try-out the next day. We still chose the strong arm team.

I'm sorry, but this is laughable to even picture in my head. If you weren't there, you really shouldn't speak or maybe you should because it just makes me laugh harder. I was not going to say anything, but I really felt that I needed to clear up what is being said.
