If you make an offer to a girl, please stand by your word. My daughter was offered a spot on a team, only for the coach to call me an say she wasn't going to make the cut 4 days later. He called last night to apologize, stating that he didn't remember making the offer to the group that had tried out last Wednesday. This, in my eyes, is an unacceptable practice and excuse. He absolutely crushed a girl who was ready to bleed for him and had her crying herself to sleep the night before her 1st day of high school.
So please, all coaches, stand by what you tell these young, impressionable kids. They are just looking for guidance, both on, and more importantly, off the field. There are many, many more things important in life than a win, a tournament, or even, yes I'll say it, a trophy. I still remember the names of all of my coaches in all sports, as will the kids you have. I hope it's a memory for the good, and not for a misspoken word, a hissy fit that proved nothing, embarrassing a girl unnecessarily, or, God forbid, an act of violence.
We thought we were good and had a spot. Unfortunately, because of one man's character, we are still looking. Thanks for your time.
