An Idea to help all future/ current Travel ball players, parents, coaches and organizations! NE Ohio

No disrespect, this is a bad idea. So teams set up a booth with team info? So this basically becomes a "sales job"! Or perhaps a great way for a not so good organization to bring in better talent by piggy backing off of a better organization?
Your going to need a full day for each age group for this to work, and by the end of the day, parents will have heard so much BS and promises that they will end up going to a normal tryout.... Bottom line, good organizations do not need to sell themselves during a tryout, they do so throughout the season, which in return is why they get players to show up every year.

Better yet, why not have a podium equipped with shackles (for arms and legs) and an auctioneer. Then parade the players one at a time up to the block and auction them off to the highest bidder say like the 1800s! Are you guys really serious?[/QUOTE)Not a good idea

This will make it easy for me to poach players...

arent they already doing this all over Ohio? It's called Lasers tryout...

This would not work. Players leaving organizations and trying out for other teams and they're all there on the same premises? Organizations putting down other organizations. He said / she said. This would get ugly real quick.

Now you have to hire Kent State Police...

There are always pros and cons to any ideas. Personally, I think the individual org tryouts enable the parents to evaluate the organization, coaches, how well the DD interacts with other potential teammates and vise versa. Private tryouts or tryout during a team practice works too.

That is an ignorant comment. Nobody is forcing anyone to participate. Nobody will have to go play for a team they don't want to. It is all optional and up to the individual if they want to participate.

That being said, I don't know what I think about the idea. It would definitely let the higher level teams acquire talent that has been hidden on mediocre teams. However, would the coaches of the "not higher level"teams be watching those same players and overlooking the players that they could realistically recruit? I'm not trying to insult any players or teams. If we are honest, e all know there are levels of players and teams.

Leave that for the southern organizations.

This might work if we legislate for anti-fugitive player laws. Any player found fleeing from south to north would immediately be returned to servitude! I can see the reemergence of the underground player railroad!

Does the word chattel ring a bell?

When I brought up the Southern Ohio Teams, I meant, would it be beneficial for them to come all that way for a tryout in their eyes. . Wasn't knocking them in any way.

Nor was I. I just see this as nothing but trouble and being a teacher(an ignorant one at that), the analogy came quickly to mind and I see interesting parallels if I do say so myself.

There are pros and cons to this, I agree also.. Dont think we would need to police, I think the teams/organizations that agree to work together will be decent each other. When you are grading players, look at all of them, if you just focus on the 'best ones' you could miss a good one, bring your tryout grading sheets. get names, phone #s.. The family and player will decide the best place for their dd to play. To be honest, I cant see one of the 'bigger' organizations getting in this. This will fit the 'B' teams better because if the kid is that elite of a player she will just work out privately. This is more for the teams that will take a player that was cut by a bigger organization/team but is still good enough to play and make a difference. I have talked to a few different teams already. They think this is possible. After we get a good size list we will post it. Again, pros and cons to both sides. Thank you all for the opinions and ideas, even if you think this is a bad idea, you are giving good reasons and with that, helping us with ideas to avoid the promblems you have stated.

As far as an ignorant comment is concerned, it's called an analogy.

Go for it, if it works and is a huge success everyone will copy this idea in the years to come.

Maybe you can get the National Guard to police for the poachers. The automatic rifles may deter them a bit.

How's this for an analogy: NFL Pro Scouting Combine.

It let's your talent be seen. You can't pick who's going to be watching.

Again... Novel idea. May work. May not. (They thought Christopher Columbus was a whack-job, too.)

I hate to admit it but this isn't a horrible idea. From a parents persepective this could be good and let several teams see your DD all at once.

We need a handful more teams/organizations and we will give it a shot. I said before that up here in NE Ohio everyone knows everyone in the tournament ball world. So if it is brought to my or another coaches attention that someone is cherry picking( because poaching doesnt apply here) I have no issues asking the person to please leave or chip in and give each team/organization X ammount of money for them being there. We rent the parking lot also. Infact we can set all the booths, tables up right next to the parking lot so everyone can see if there is a cherry picker out there. Lets give this a shot! If it works, Its gonna be a great time for all working out and trying out at KSU!
