You're so right. (We're not saying that it shouldn't happen. It just won't.)

Im thinking an organization would be afraid if they got beat, they might lose top level players or something to another organization. If they could put the fear away and embrace the high level competition and have fun with it, what a great thing it would be. Just an opinion.

Both the outlaws and the lasers would have very little to gain, both already play really full schedules against other great teams , great in theory but I dont see where either side would want to give up a weekend to prove some hypothetical state champ .. we already have rays'lasers' asa states and the end all for who is best - the OFC voters poll :) . I'd be thrilled for my dd to play for either one .

But a regular tourny isn't the same. We are talking head to head. Not mixed in with tons of teams. Each organization brings one team from each age group. A real showdown. It probably would never happen but it would be cool if it did.

One game would not be conclusive. The 14U champion at ASA/USA Nats lost to a FL team and then beat them twice to win it all. NBA and MLB both had short playoff series (i.e. 3-5 games) and extended them to 7 games because stronger teams were getting knocked out early.

The other aspect is do you want to determine the best at playing a single game or the best tourney team (multiple games/day)?

Think of it as a one game elimination tourney. In HS playoffs, you lose, youre done. No second chances.

We talked about this last night some on the radio show. The only way I see this happening if the heads of two of the more elite organizations in the state got together and made it happen and all of the proceeds went to charity (e.g., breast cancer). I don't see any 3rd party being able to bring it together ... there would be way too much for one of the organizations to lose if they happened to come out on the short end of things that day, unless those 2 organizations put it together themselves and presented it as a charitable cause and not a "competition" to see who is best. Also keep in mind it would be extremely difficult if not impossible for these organizations to field their full teams in the offseason when the girls are back to school and participating in other sports and activities, not to mention college showcases, etc. Westler ... your avatar implies your DD is with the Lasers organization ... if you really want to see something like this, then talk with Jeff C. about it.

And by the way, if it happens and Andrew's dad is doing the BBQ, I will be there!

I was just responding to the original post ... exactly who the two organizations would be is a good question ... I would think one would be Lasers ... there was a discussion on another thread about who the top organizations in Ohio are who have strong teams from 10-U to 18-U ... probably Stingrays, Classics and Outlaws could all make a case and would bring a following ... I'm probably overlooking others ... I certainly have no skin in the game ...

Lol G3 ... I was worried you were trying to suck me into that!

Simply said, an elite organization in my mind is one that enters into and competes successfully at the most competitive tournaments/showcases in the state (Stingrays, GAPSS, ASA States, etc.) and country (i.e., ASA/USA or PGF nationals, Colorado tourneys, Pennsbury, Atlanta, etc.).

and just to clarify your definition your referring to all the teams in a said organization or majority not just 1 team ....and I agree with your definition .(one that enters into and competes SUCCESSFULLY at the most competitive tournaments/showcases in the state ....
thanks ...

G3 ... definitely ... and if an organization only had 1 strong team, they would look pretty silly if the rest of their teams got destroyed in such a "showdown". I do think all of the organizations I mentioned have more than 1 team, though I also think there's a pretty good gap between the Lasers and the next closest in terms of teams from top to bottom ...

Isn't there some sort of point system in ASA, PGF, or USSSA? Could a point be given for # of wins, strength of schedule, point differentials, etc.... uh oh, that's BCS talk... How do you get a definitive answer without an all encompassing governing body?
