Yesterdays JV game, Pitcher pitches the ball, wild pitch and ball comes rolling into
the batters box, batter sticks out foot and lets ball roll into it with a slight kick.
Ump awards batter 1st base. crowd goes nuts Blue says batter owns the box.
Right call ?

NO! She obviously made no attempt to avoid being hit. Blue must have been new or doing a little home cookin. LoL

Not even close. If a batter intentionally touches the pitch she isn't awarded first base as a hit batter.

Question: Was this by any chance ball four? This pitch would be ruled a ball and if it was ball four then the batter would get first base- not because she was hit, but because it was ball four.

Awwwww,Bretman, you chimed in too soon. You're supposed to let everybody post their wild and can't-be-father-from-the-rule interpretations before you set us straight!

No not ball 4 my book says she had 1 strike and 1 ball at the time of the pitch
We said the same thing (no attempt to get out of the way heck she actually stepped into it) or should I say kicked into it LOL
Thanks for the responses I thought so

The only way this was right was if the umpire judged *whatever* the batter did as part of her effort to avoid the ball.
