Another rules question...

SoCal - yes, I see now the rule on your first point, thanks for clarifying for me Rule 8, Section 8.F. But I can't find the rule on your second point on obstruction...I thought that if a feilder is in the act of "fielding a batted ball" it is not obstruction, at least that is what is in Rule 1 under the definition of obstruction

Once a fielder touches or deflects a batted ball, they may no longer be considered to be "fielding the batted ball". Some rule sets spell it out that if the deflected ball is within "a step and a reach" of the fielder, then they are still in the act of fielding the ball. Others leave it up to the umpire to decide if the fielder still has an opportunity to make an out. But the concept is the same- if the ball bounces away from the fielder, she is no longer in the act of fielding it.

Sorry for not including a reference - I based my reply on 8.4.E.2 because you said the runner kicked the ball after the SS touched it. It covers the runner contacting a fair ball after it was touched versus 8.8.F covering the runner being unavoidably hit by same.
