Thanks Bear. You are THE man. I tried to insert a table, it looked great until I saved it. Then I just tried to dress it up a bit.

We all need the info so that the teams can try to set their summer schedules. I just try to help where I can.

The Region 9 tournament is a qualifier for ASA-USA Nationals, but it is "closed" in the sense that only teams from Region 9 can compete for the berth. In contrast, any team from anywhere can play in the tournaments described above as "National Qualifiers". In the past, especially at 16U and 18U, teams have shown up in Ohio from CA, WA, OR, GA, VA, etc. etc. A few years ago Shreve, Ohio held the open qualifier for 16U. Shreve is a tiny town between Wooster and Loudonville that I believe only has one traffic light. The girls from more populated cities in these other states looked a bit stunned when they arrived at the field. :p :p

We were at that tourney and 'stunned' was the look on some of the California girls to say the least. As I recall I think they were at least 2 teams from California and they could not believe that they were playing for a National Berth so far away from any large city or town.

Shreve is a nice little town and I thought they did a great job as far as the tournament went, but it was bit out of the way and 1 of the fields was not the best. Otherwise, it was a good tournament and I think all the girls had fun, even those from California.

Thanks for posting the qualifying tournments for next summer. I for one have been trying to find a list and now thanks to you guys it is available. Thanks much.

Sincerely

a1's dad:

You and I are to be commended. We went almost a whole day before one of us (that would be me) pointed out that all those out of state teams at Shreve went home (or at least to the next state on their carpetbagging tour) without the berth to Seattle, which was earned by an Ohio team.

also I am hosting the region 9 18u qualifier the same weekend as the 18u national qualifier in Massillon. June 26-28 both tournaments combined! That was what I was told would happen about 1 week ago! So the info posted about 18u asa qualifiers is wrong according to what I have been told would happen!

Sorry for the bad news!

Oh my, Jamie's post raises the question whether there are other problems with the list . . . this scheduling a team's season is becoming more difficult than rocket science.

Well, Bill, you've certainly done your best to share the information and you can only report what you've been told, so I'm reiterating my THANKS to you.

WHOAAAA: Even if you aren't involved with a 14U team, you need to recognize that the information posted by Valley Extreme represents another CHANGE from the list provided by Mr. Jones. Is there anyone out there who has good communications with Mr. Jones and who would be willing to ask him whether there is an anticipated date for closure on the schedule for ASA qualifiers? I must have unwittingly ticked him off (what, ME pop off on this board without considering the possible consequences?;&) , because I've had no response to my emails. But I do know that he has been responsive to others and I'd really appreciate it if those people would share the information. Thanks!

Not sure if this is what your asking about, but anyways. According to ASA Code, and how they did it last year, all State, Regional, and National Qualifiers were open until one week before playing the tourney. This was usually the Friday of the week before the start of the tourney, and they have to take everyone that applies.
