I had the privilege of watching and working with Slatten when she played for Valley Storm 18u (England) in 2011. She was 16u playing up and the best I have ever saw. She has a verbal to Texas and you can check her out on our website. Thanks Lauren for showing my DD a thing or two!

Well, I believe the Paulson girls are considered CA products now, so it should be long enough.
Certainly not the older one - she went to HS in AZ and played TB for an AZ team.

I posted both of them on a thread here as Ohio girls playing D1.

I don't see where being an Ohio product was a criteria for this thread.
I thought that was a given considering the OP was by ManDan...

It's encouraging a major D1 school like Texas verballed a pitcher as a rising senior with the recent trend towards early verbals.

I'd bet they had that offer in the works before she ever left Texas.........

what makes them the best pitcher? how hard one can throw? Movement? Have each of these pitchers been benefited with a good defense behind them? What if a pitcher, say played for Hoover and only threw 50 mph. Never struck anyone out, but got everyone to hit ground balls or pop flys. There were no errors behind her in the field. Based on this, had five or six no hitters, would she be considered the best pitcher?

Elyria's pitcher threw 63 mph, but had a suspect defense behind her and had a record of 22 - 7? who might be considered better.

just for conversation.... no one in mind, just that conversations like this become very objective.

I hear there is a pitcher on the outlaws that might be a 2015 that is being looked at by Tennesse. Chyanne something. I would have to think she would be up there also.

Correction - Elyria was 22 - 3 and the pitcher was 22-2(1-0 loss opening day vs Mentor. Loss to Poland where she did not pitch and loss to State Champion Lebanon in semi-final 3 -1 vs Tara Trainer who is excellent)

I wish the thread would just get back to the list . Wish I could add more to it but don't have enough data.

2013 Anderson/Rivera/Minney all very good
2014?
2015 Alvelo
2016 Do not know anything about this class.

back to the list then -

I think you would have to put Tara Trainer of Lebenon on there in the class of 2015. She 5 hit Hoover in the final. 3 hit Elyria in the semi-finals. Pitched for a very good Laser team. Very good velocity, throws hard inside, nice rise.

(Elyria by the way was actually 26-3)

I was only being hyopthetical. it was really not meant to be factual. but, i for one would say that last year's Elyria pitcher was better than Hoover's pitcher. My point was just that sometime a good defense and team can make a pitcher better looking than she really is.

Caitlyn Minney flew under the radar a bit. As a freshman, she split time at Keystone with Kenzie Conrad, sat out a year when she moved to Elyria as a sophomore, and last year was her first full year as the #1 varsity pitcher and compiled an impressive record. She is a YSU recruit.

Gotcha. No problem. I see you meant it as a hypothetical.

Of the pitchers I have seen, Lauren Slatten is above anyone else here that has been mentioned. I'd follow that with Avelo, then Tara Trainer. 2014 pitcher not mentioned is Ashley Sharpe for Lakota West and Cincy Doom Gold. She is also very good and worthy of some talk.

Over the years I have watched a lot of softball and have seen some really great pitchers.

I have not seen Slatten but regardless of whether she goes to Texas to pitch or as a position player, that is still an incredible honor and great accomplishment.

I have seen Alvelo numerous times and each time I watch this young lady, I am amazed at her poise and command in the circle- she is definitly an Elite Pitcher.

I can't imagine Slatten going to Texas to do anything but pitch. As for being better than Alvelo, from what I saw I thought she was. Maybe I did not see Alvelo on her best day, but Lauren was the best I have seen....ever.

In school ball, we had the pleasure of facing both Slatten and Alvelo last year (along with Trainer, Sharp and Buckenmyer from East). All were tough! It's really hard to pick which one between Slatten and Alvelo but they are both very tough to face. The great news for us is we get to face them all again this year! Can't wait...kinda.

One name I didn't see...my DD had the pleasure of catching Tara Thacker of Hoover at a recent college camp. She is an excellent pitcher!
