We had a group of girls (parents) split from our team and start a new team. Reasons given were.
1. Did not like to bunt
2. Played to many games
3. Did not like playing small ball
4. Did not like to bunt
5. Did not like to bunt

sad thing was the girls wanted to stay and play , the parents made the decision.

mmcoach, sounds like you had parents that thought it was major league baseball for girls and didn't appreciate the small ball game. By the way, my daughter is on Lady Faultless, and your team has an excellent small ball game from what I've seen.

But to address Doug's original post, I think the gas prices make playing closer to home for more attractive for many folks especially if the new team has a great coach and great folks involved in the organization.

Maybe it is because you go to tryouts and see these coaches are in it for their own kid, have no clue, or are just A_HOLES. We found a team that might not be the "Elite of the Elite" but the coaches are solid, give a C R A P about my kid and the other 11, and do it for the game

Exactly! There are too many daddyball teams. Sometimes the Best team for your DD is not the team that thinks it has the best players.

Yeah this past year we took a beating money wise due to higher cost gas and food prices. I jumped on the 401k to grab some money to help out for cost. At the time I thought I might of been nuts for doing this, but after all the damn money I lost in the past 2 months due to this ecomony in my 401k, I dont regret it at all. Atleast I was able to use that money for something.

Here is an idea about cost, What about some groups hosting Non-Sanctioned Tourneys Early on in the season to keep costs down. The teams that are planning to go to Nats or Sts will qualify any way...this way tourney would cost $200 or $250 a team and not $400.
This would also let the sanctioning groups know that softball can function with or without them so they need to get their shhhtuff together.

Has anyone done this or is the status quo OK with everyone.

We started the Hawks to provide the level of training and softball opportunity for the local players. Our vision for the organization is to provide a opportunity for the players to improve and experience a higher level of fastpitch.

My personal goal is to work to find our older girls a place to play after high school. We have a relationship with Miami U in Oxford and the staff their to provide clinics and training for our players and coaches on what they as a D1 school look for when recruiting. I plan on producing recruiting videos this year for our college ready players... we'll see, it gets more competative every year.

#1's daughter signed with team that folded as soon as all other try-outs were over.
#2's daughter went with team that collected money then folded team. no refunds!!!
#3's daughter went with team that head coach quit after one month.

Dad's of #1, #2, & #3 were not very happy with our introduction into SELECT softball.

Dad's of #1, #2, & #3, had several girls that they coached since T-Ball request that they start their own Organization.

We started with a very young 14u team and had a very sucessfull inuagural season.
We played against some of the best competition in the SWO area.
We learned a lot and had a lot of FUN !!!

We are a 2nd year 12u team that hooked up with some Great kids and Great parents that had to move up and the rest of there old team was staying down. Also we have 7 girls on our team that play AAU basketball and it works well with there schedule.

If your stud pitcher looks for greener pastures, or your #2 has trouble not being #1, that can shake up a team pretty good. I've seen it happen in a few places. Everyone has an agenda, not that there is anything wrong with watching out for your dd, but it can lead to issues that make it difficult on keeping a team together.
