Dilemma

gotta quarter??

Long term is my suggestion. What fits best, can you peal back the coaching differences deeper and see what core strengths one team can build better than the other, ask them both some tough questions... then regroup. Oh yeah, and you have 6 hours to figure this out...

looking ahead is what we all want to do but travel ball is so much about cahnge and things happen from year to year that nonody can forsee. My advice would be go with the team that fits your daughter best for the next season and the team that you think she willl gel with the best. Never look ahead to much a year is such a long time in a childs life. Good luck to you in your decision.

I would say team B. First nobody wants to be changing teams from year to year. Second, just b/c they say she won't see much time at first position now doesn't mean she can't change that decision in the months to come if she goes after it. Third, learning and playing 2 or more positions only makes her more valuable.....JMHO

First of all, sounds like you are deciding between "good" and "good", so don't fret. It's all ... well, "good" ....

Have been in this very dilemma in the past. Daughter choce a high profile team as an OF when when she was a C/1B in the past. She developed into a very "decent" OF, and played for several years on a HIGHLY competitive team, great memories & development. Now she is moving up to 16u as an OF, SS, 2B and feels like a well rounded ball player. She used to sulk & worry way to much about new positions, or being put "on the spot" ... this has helped her.

If she is still fairly young, and the new position is "entertaining to her", I wouldn't worry about that part. I really like being with a good team, that can do good things, and stay together going forward. I hate bouncing around more than finding a useful spot on a good team. Love focusing on the "team" angle, and letting the rest flow out of it.

The counter to this would be if she is older and really needs to "focus" on her main position, be "seen" there, or if coaching and/or team dynamics determine one over the other. You do see a lot of top travel players playing other ppositions on good teams, versatility & growth (if it fits your plans though).

Just some thoughts .... None of us can give you or dd better advice than what she feels in her heart & head! Again, "good" vs "good" ... good luck.

DD is offered a spot on two teams.
DD wants to play for both.
(All playing time is subject to keeping up the pace of course)
Team A is offering lots of playing time in preferred position.
Team B is is offering same amount of playing time but not much in preferred position.
Team A stays down next year.
Team B moves up. Which she will need to do.
Coaching is good both places.
What is some advice?

Lots of lets say.... variables here. questions for yourself...

What kind of tourneys will each team be doing? That has made my mind up before

Like said seein coaching at tryout(unless you know the people) is skin deep....
whats really going on?

the team a/b moves up or down is kinda irevalant in my opinion you still gotta worry about this year and foucus on that..... Short time goals... i.e what team is going to make her better for next year?

my vote would be with the team that is her age, also ask about what type of schedule they are playing. the tougher schedule only makes your DD a better ball player.

lee74,

Just curious, what age group? That could make some difference for me (possibly). Including also, her short & long term aspirations (college?). Anyway, sounds like you all have settled on things, ... now, more of a gut check now to be sure. Again, good luck, exciting times this time of year ... when opportunity awaits you!

idk...My daughter played up 2 seasons ago. 14U (shoulda been 12U) No issues. she hit 422. with some Extra base hits Had one or two Errors at 2b all year with lots of Chances. So... it depends on how confident she is.

I'd go with the team that is letting her play the position she really wants to play. It's no fun playing a whole season if your not happy where you are playing. That same thing happened to me last year and I wish I took the team that woulda let me play 2B instead of the team moving up that had me playing OF b/c i decided I didnt want to stay with that team after all. There are plenty of teams out there and it wouldnt be too hard to find a new one next year if needed

It is really hard to make this decision. I agree age group is huge. I also think it is important to find out what kind of schedule each team will play. If you are in tournaments where the competition is not there then it may not help your DD improve. Also if the position she plays primary is one where she has taken lessons and she is set on that position that is another thing to consider. DD is a pitcher and she would not play on a team where she was not a pitcher. So these are all things to consider. Good luck.

I think finding out more information about both teams is huge. Is there a chance to compete for that position or is it set in stone that another player will be there. That is something to think about. It is hard to see into the future and know what the right answer is. I guess if you make a decision and it does not turn out well then as we cleveland sports fans say "there's always next year"
