Re: Do you take her home run away?

In fact I do & I was the person who brought this to the attention of the head coach for Stingrays. I had seen this very thing enforced before and I explained that to him. For the record, the coach's first reaction was "No...let it go." Kudos to him. Fact is..I pressed him and am the one who probably forced his play by saying that our (coaches) responsibility to the team is to help them as much as we can, within the limits of the rule. Having personally seen this very thing enforced before, I had full belief that this rule existed. I explained to the head coach where I observed it being enforced & only then did he agree to bring it to the umpire's attention. There is something that must be known about the head coach in this situation.
1. He felt very bad about doing this & in fact he had his entire team sign a separate ball & persented it to the Slammers player who hit that shot when they were shaking hands. He is a very classy head coach who was convinced to do something in the heat of competition to help his team. I thought it was a rule & so did the umpires.
2. At the post-game chat with the team, he explained to this to them & he honestly felt like it was morally wrong, but within the rules.
It was a nice hit & let it be known that it was very close game at that time. Maybe 5-2 when that ball was hit.

So...here's a question I put right back out there. Change the scenario. It's not a home run, but rather a bomb that she hits & she clears loaded bases with a stand-up triple. She misses first base on her way around the bases. Do you, as the opposing coach, appeal that to the umpires? Absolutely you do, because that is your responsibility to your team. Anybody who says they would not appeal that is lying because that is one of our responsibilities during games. We hear parents all the time "She left early blue...The pitcher is illegal, blue." 14U, 12U, 8U...we all want our teams to win. That girl from the Slammers was the MVP of that game. Excellent catcher...great hitter. You will see that girl a lot in the years to come!

Folks do not berate the head coach for the '03 Stingrays...he was doing what he thought was within the rules to help his team in a pivotal part of the game & he was at first hesitant to follow through with the umpires on that. Remember...it was permitted & this is not the first game in which this has happened.

As of this moment, I am still waiting on the Admin to read my PM so he can take this thread down before it goes crazy & the angry lynch mobs appear.

Man, youve had quite a season already, and its not done yet!

Why tell us it was at a practice? Obviously you didn't think too much of your decision. You started the thread and now you are running to the moderators to take it down? You are truly a special person.

Ok, I sat idly by on the last thread that you were called out on though it was tough. Can't do it again. A 10U player hits a walkoff homerun and you pester the head coach to to have her called out? Seriously? You preach in other threads that you're all about the girls, yet time and time again you contradict this assertion.

The player was a 10U for goodness sake. Let the child enjoy her accomplishment instead of being "that parent". I honestly think you should be ashamed for provoking this situation.

So this wasn't even involving your team? What is wrong with you? And shame on the coach whose team it was for letting you talk him into something so idiotic. I am rarely surprised, but you got me on this one. You are quickly gaining quite the reputation.

This is sad. Start a thread with a lie and get a good coach on blast and its sounds like it's your fault for convincing him to appeal sad.

I wish CZ would just stop posting instead of causing a stir then having the threads closed. You have seen it enforced so you thought it was a rule? :lmao:

Re: Do you take her home run away?

CZ, Based on your explanation and coming to the defense of the HC of your daughter's team, I'm guessing that HC has learned to not listen to you anymore. You seem to be getting a lot of people into trouble. What's that called...oh yeah, guilty by association. Pretty soon you will have everyone around you running away from you so they won't be guilty of your next "move." Stop posting because you don't seem to have any common sense or filter. You don't seem to "get it." After this many posts taking a wrong turn for yourself, you'd think you would figure it out.

I would let this post stand until I was fully aware of a public apology to the girl who got her HR taken away incorrectly.
Don't figure out how to save face now...at this point I'd figure out how you can help everyone else out by sitting back and letting others enjoy the game.

And comparing a base clearing gap triple to an over the fence homerun for a 10u girl is Apples to Oranges...

Where was it enforced the other time you saw it? We're you coaching or umpiring that game? The other examples you gave to try and help your team...the illegal pitch and leaving early are different. They are rules.

They were getting smashed, and he was a cry baby and thought as a coach of another team he should suggest that this coach cry too. spinelss!

BTW - the umpire should never be allowed to call a game above the 8u age group.

I'm about to explode really! YOu have shown sooo many true colors and dont even know it. Not only did you have the whole "BAT issue, but now your saying that you will take any action you can weather spinless and and petty to put your team in a position to win? Why is this guy allowed to coach youth again?

And to think on your last issue posting I actually thought you were simply mistaken. Rules are rules and this wasn't even one but 10 year old girls ? AND you were losing big? I'd smile and say awesome hit kid enjoy it, C'mon man! Some people...

I calmed down enough to not type what I wanted to....... CZ - really? At 10u, come on. The coaches responsibility is to teach the girls the game, make sure they are safe, make sure they have fun and respect the opportunity they have to play softball. Not to call every minor thing that happens in a game. You sound like the dad screaming "she's crow hopping" or "she's leaving early" on every play. Get a grip.

Here is what you have accomplished - and probably meant to.

- You took away a memory from a kid in the hopes of winning a meaningless game that the 10u players will forget as soon as they take their first bite from a chic-fil-a sandwich on the way home.
- you tried to show a coach that you knew the rules better than others and knew what a coach should do - how did that go?
- then you called out the coach who it has been said was mortified by it after the fact.
- Seems like you re-enforced other peoples perception of you.

Job well done.

I guess you succeeded on all fronts.

The thread should stay open, he should get every lash he deserves. You helped break a little girls memory that most only dream about.

Sports should be an escape from our day to day problems. Instead of letting this little girl experience a joy she would likely not soon forget.....you just reminded her how ugly the world can be...

CZ, The fact that you had to start a thread on OFC makes me sick....this mistake (in my opinion) could of quietly gone away, but you had to way a FLAG for everyone to see. Matt was in the heat of the moment and it sounds like he took some bad advice. Matt is not a bad guy and is in it for the right reasons, he just made a mistake.
