Double hit question ?

I was bunting for a base hit ( I bring the bat quickly down from a normal hitting ready position in front of the ball ) The ball roll about 5 feet in front of the plate and had a lot of backspin. As I took off, I dropped the bat in front of the plate as I ran by it. (I was batting right handed). The ball stopped and rolled back towards the plate into the bat. I was called out due to a double hit. Is this right ?

If you described the play accurately then you should not have been called out. The bat becomes part of the field at that point. If the umpire felt that you dropped the bat to intentionally interfere with the batted ball, then he could call you out, but the act of the ball rolling back into the bat is not necessarily an automatic out.
