Dropped 3rd Strike

Does a dropped third strike count as a strike-out for the pitcher?

Does it count as an error on the catcher?

What if there is a dropped third strike, a throwing error by the catcher that allows batter to get to first, then eventually the batter scores. Is that run an earned run?

Yes it does count as a strikeout for the pitcher. So a pitcher can actually get more than 3 strikeouts in an inning and more than 21 in a 7 inning game.

If the catcher drops the third strike and the batter reaches first, then it is a passed ball not an error. If the catcher throws out the batter going to first, the catcher does not get a passed ball (as long as no other runners advanced), and instead of getting the putout she normally gets when its a strikeout, she gets an assist.

If the batter gets on and eventually comes around to score, then it is an unearned run whether it is a passed ball or an error. If after the dropped third strike, the catcher's bad throw allows the batter to reach first, then it is an error (vs. a passed ball) and as with any other runner who reaches by an error, that run would be unearned.

Hope that answers all your questions.

Yes it does and thanks. I thought that was the case but my own scoring has been different than her high school scorer and the difference has always been the strikeout count. I don't think they have been counting dropped third strikes as strikeouts.
