In the A division the Lady lasers went 1-2 . Lost 10-0 to the indy dreams this AM at 7;00 . The A division had 4 teams. Our 10U team had a great tourney run in the B division, went 4-1 lost in sudden death playoff to ??? , can't remember , brain fryed. We had 2 girls go yard, 1 girl hit 2 out. Our 12U team went 2-2 , played decent at best. Beat 2 weak teams , lost to Munster someone , maybe magic ? and lost this AM to the Indy Shockwave 8-0 . They hit very well. More later MD

The team that won the B division was the Logansport Havoc. In the A division the indy Thunder (not 100% sure) was undefeated in pool play and looked really strong. The Indy Magic was losing to the Thunder when we left to set up a final between Thunder and Dreams.
In the 12U I know the Shockwave , Munster magic were thru to the semi's but got out of town after we lost. Would love to know how the 12u played out. The Kalamazoo Klash and Indy (or Anderson ) Bandits did not win pool or sunday games. The Wildfire from Ind were elimanated also. See ya MD

ManitouDan do you know how the Lasers 10U finished? Or was thier 1-2 finish the extent of thier weekend. If so Laser Leader must have been fit to be tied, seeing he coaches that team. I am sure that they expected better. Getting handled like they did vs the indy dreams does not normally happen to a laser team. Could mean a long season in store for them if they continue to give up 10 runs a game to good teams.

Yes 1-2 was their tally for the weekend and Yes the staff was not happy. They were still discussing matters out by the dome outfield wall an hour or 2 after the game. I'm sure they will improve, Did'nt get to catch the Indy Thunder but heard they have a really strong # 1 arm. The Dreams looked really young but they all run really well, very fast. But they looked like alot of 9 year old's. The Wild Thang 10's are strong , hit 3 bombs in 5 games. had 2 different girls go yard. Pretty sweet for 10u B's. Their # 1 got hurt in the final inning of the champonship , injured her wrist on play at home , had to go to extra's with the # 2 throwing. MD

If this is true and the Lazers got driled 10-0 by a mostly 9u team, Jeff will be hot on the recruiting trail. If you don't produce on the Lazers you get replaced.

Bowlingreeneagles, you must be a casualty of the Lasers, it's always the parent not the 10 year old girl that seems to abanden ship when there DD is not playing as much as they would like . That is why there are teams with lesser talent, for folks like you.

P.S. drilled has two l"S

10U is an interesting age, and it doesn't matter if you're the Lasers, the Indy Dreams or the BatBusters, some days it all comes together and others it's just not there no matter how good a coach or the team is. I've also found that at 10U and 12U the parents tend to take it harder than the kids - the kids generally have the right idea they go and get a sundae, and then dust off the gloves and bats and try to do better the next time. As to the coaching staff talking out by the fence for a couple of hours, I've been known to talk that long win or lose, so I wouldn't read too much into that - probably just trying to figure out what they could have done.

So, where am I going with all of this, just this: It's early in the season, it's 10U, and it's supposed to be fun at that age, let's not post anything out here that will make it anything else. Believe it or not we probably have more than a few 10Us that read the boards.

Choosenone,Dan Bowlingreeneagles and to whom it may concern,

I was greeted at the door after work by my 10 year old DD with a very sad face. You see she plays for the Lasers and frequently reads OFC. She had not realized that the coaches were upset ( in her mind ) at her and her teammates and that the coaches would replace them over a couple losses. Feel free to post 1 instance of a child that has been replaced after making the team due to non-production. Yes some may lose starting spots to others that are working hard and playing better at the time, but to replace is just not true. Some parents choose to leave after this happens and yes we fill that spot. I feel compelled to give the facts as they are.

1st. the team that we lost to on Sun. was a very solid team and very classy I might add.

2nd. We beat that team 4-0 on Sat. with what I think was there better pitcher. The other loss was to one of the top pitchers in the area . She pitched them to a # 4 finish at the world series last year as a 1st year 10u. Again great talent and classy team.

3rd. Do not be concerned about the Lasers 10u . Last year we started with 6 wins and 6 losses in our 1st three tourneys and proceeded to win the next 15 games in a row and 28 out of 30, and then to finish the season 59 wins and 9 losses against 10u teams. I can't speak for the coaches but I would bet they are not in a panic over a couple of early losses to some extremely talented teams as it will surely make them a better team as time goes on.

Finally, I would think the coaches ( again I can't speak for them ) would be open to some friendly scrimmages to an teams interested ( even 12u teams ). Now All you 10u Lasers need not worry your still the best team, your Dads are the strongest Dads, your dogs the toughest dogs and your Moms are the prettiest, just like all 10 year olds girls feel.

Sincerely

Tony ( The stongest Dad in the world, just ask Kennedy )

Boldcatcher- good post ---I was'nt taking any shots at your team , just reported the score and that the staff did have an extended discussion after the game. As a Dad to a girl that was repesenting Ohio I was pulling for the Lasers to do really well. They are the most prominent team in Ohio and I only wish them the very best. Down here in so. ohio it's your team we wish to catch up to. I'm sure the girls will be just fine ---they look very talented. MD

Choosenone said, "I am sure that they expected better."

The Lady Lasers coaches did not expect better, they did not go into the tournament with expectations of winning every game. You can not know what to expect when you face the best teams in Indiana because you have not seen them yet this year. We were trying to face great competition by playing the best teams in Indiana at this tournament in order to get better. We did that and we will get better as a result.

Choosenone said, "must have been fit to be tied?"

None of the coaches are "fit to be tied" or angry. They are focused on learning and helping the players improve, just like they have in past years. We tend to start out slow early in the season and keep getting better during the season, hopefully peaking at Nationals at the end of the season.

ManitouDan said, "the staff was not happy. They were still discussing matters out by the dome outfield wall an hour or 2 after the game."

That is a strange statement to make. No one is happy about losing, but the staff was not unhappy. For one thing, they realize that there is more to life than winning and losing. Second, talking after games is normal, even for a couple hours for some people. If they were not discussing matters would you have called attention to that? Would you have tried to imply that they were mad and wouldn?t even talk to each other very long after they lost? Just for your information, they went out to eat and talked for a couple more hours. They are committed to helping the players and the team. They will work very hard to make that happen. That includes spending time talking about things.

We looked very good the first game (just ask Indy Dreams), we did not look good the last game (just ask Indy Dreams). That happens for various reasons. We are aware of some of the reasons. We became more aware of our strengths and our weaknesses. We will work on things for the next time we play those teams and other teams. We are very happy with the group we have. We will not replace players for not producing. We will win many games. We will lose some games. We will keep working and improving. We view this as another learning experience.

Seems like a lot of fuss over nothing. It was an indoor tournament between two good teams. Sometimes things don't go your way. Sounds like the first game was very competetive.

I am sure that when the Lasers 10U heads outdoors they will be amoung the best in Ohio and the midwest, they normally are.

Good luck and we hope to see you guys this summer.

SBone, your post is just another reason I'm happy and proud to be a Laser. This is our first year with the Lasers and this being my 20th year invovled with travelball, I can tell you there is not a more dedicated staff and/ or orginization any where or any place.

S-bone ---sorry your skin is so thin ---If they talk for hours after every game good for them . I've already stated the obvious , I reported the score and the coaches met to discuss the game ---it's no big deal. Caring coaches is probably the #1 reason they consistiently kick tail. I agree with Rich ---much ado about nothing , The lasers will be # 1 in ohio , or very close to it. MD

Are we supposed to be questioning the practices of the organizations that our daughters DO NOT PLAY for? There are no positives to publicly showing your discontent for another. If you do not participate with said organization, for your own personal reasons, kept them your personal reasons.

This forum is not ESPN. Professionals get scrutinized by the critics for being paid entirely too much and not performing to the level of their paychecks. They, (professionals) are adults that make their own decisions. 10 year old girls are off limits to negative commits. They are way too young for this kind of attention. Win or lose these girls are learning. They will learn many different lessons of life along the way. Softball is just a part of their life, so let softball be a positive part of their life.

I hope that every girl playing softball has a positive experience this season and that they have equal and great competition. That means all teams will win.
