The Dome in Fort Wayne....

Just got back from a weekend at "The Dome" in Fort Wayne. I would have to say this place is the best indoor softball place I have ever been too. The place was huge with real 150'+ home run fences and 65' high roof that balls almost never hit (they were foul balls if they did). There were 4 cages to warm-up in and they stagger started the games on the two diamonds so that it wasn't too congested. The turf was that green stuff with the rubber in it and it was set on the ground not a concrete slab so the balls didn't all bounce over your head. Good umpires good competition, a balcony for the fans to watch from on one of the diamonds. plenty of protected area along the sides and back too.

They had just gottern a snowstorm and it was cold and windy out side and the kids were taken their underarmor off to play the games. It was a pleaseant 60-65 or so inside - very comfortable.

Very good experience there. Its nice to play some new competition too.

We were there last year and I just wish we had something like this in our area. Just never go during a storm. It got struck by lighting and deflated. It was kind of neat to see how they inflate it.

Yes The FW Dome is pretty cool . I guess we got spoiled --this was the 1st indoor experience for our kids ever last year. I remember it being pretty cold in that place (we all froze) .

One huge problem I had was with the good ol sherriff's dept. We were shopping inbetween games at a local mall. DD was in the front and forgot to buckle up , Unmarked sher dept' blue lights us , writes me a ticket , which I deserved ,but the problem was they would not accept payment of the penality via the mail. They gave me a court date and expected me to keep it in 6 weeks. Even though I admitted guilt and wanted to pay the fine. Looooong story short , after a dozen phone calls , 2 written letters to the judge , and a huge amount of time , I got to pay my 25 bucks . Moral of story ---wear your seat beat ! MD

We were supposed to play there last February but they had a hard time fielding enough 10u teams so they canceled it. We were so pumped to go, but what can ya do??!!

I was'nt speeding or any other traffic violation. He pulled me over for the seat beat thing. I sent them a money order , they sent it back, they said to send it again, they sent it back again. I just knew I was going to end up with warrant out for my arrest. MD

Had a great time this past weekend! Very good competition and good umpiring (except when dd was called for stepping on the plate slapping ?::) and it took a run off the board for the team..........Other teams parents were telling us that ump blew that one....Oh well).

Ft. Wayne a very nice town with plenty of Malls & eateries for the down time. Dad's take your Golf Clubs.........they have a golf simulator upstairs to pass time away in between games..........they also have a 18 hole Putt-Putt course in the other bubble. Would not recommend Quality Inn hotel on Coliseum Blvd. though......A few of our teams rooms had no heat or hot water ?:(.........

Statman we'll have 3 Classics teams taking over the dome that weekend, and an unsuspecting hotel. Bring your poker money!

Let me also be added to the record in saying how wonderful The Dome is. Do they still have the huge home plate?

Played there last fall and the games went well past Midnight. The girls handled it O.K. but an old guy like me really missed falling asleep in front of my T.V.

The inside of the plate was pretty big for a couple games but we adjusted.

Games started at 1:30 am for a couple teams... but if you stay out of the loser bracket you get plenty of sleep ;)

How did the Ohio teams fare?

The Dome is AWESOME! My favorite place to have the girls play - hands down. Huge field, nice staff, good competition. Last year we went and I was afraid they wouldn't have enough teams but it filled up. This year we went in November, tried to get back in for February and it was already full! I think word spread pretty quickly - lol.

I'm also looking forward to seeing some new teams including MD and his Wild Thangs!!
There is a very nice field of 12u teams going to be there.
