Getting Drunk at Fastpitch Tournaments

We have been to several tournaments where the players have been drinking.

We played in the Road Runner Rendezvous in Wheeling before West Virginia put in table games and raised the gambling age limit to 21. My wife and I gamble, so if we are near a casino we are there. I found it amusing that every night there would be players still in their uniform gambling at Wheeling Downs.

It's easy to forget sometimes that a lot of 18U players are 18 or 19 years old.

I say no drinking until after the day is finished. Your adults act responsibly. After your team is done for the day is fine.

Like most men I love my Beer! Like most men I love my Kids and my Wife. I also know that with parenthood,as well as Coaching, comes an enormous amount of responsibility. There is absolutely no room for Beer at the BallPark.
Not a prude,I just know that when your in front of others the way you act or seem is a direct reflection of yourself and the people you are with. With that I say Drink responsibly, know your limit, never be the last one at the table, never eat the worm, never drink till you feel groggy, never mix beer with the hard stuff and never, never let em catch you with your guard down.If you have to drink till your hammered,STAY HOME!! you obviously have other issues.LoL...Save the show for your family they'll appreciate you more if your not a spectacle for others to talk about or whisper behind your back. I have been around these tourneys off and on all my life. When I played mens slow pitch a few years ago it was awful.O.K. more then a few years ago maybe 8 to 10 years ago. Not saying be a panzy either, drink,by all means unwind with the Fathers,Mothers and the Coaches have a great time.Drink,be sociable have fun.Just be responsible for yourself and your own.

Since when do you have to drink to prove you're not a pansy? I enjoy a good beer, wine too. But any parent or coach that drinks at a ball park, public or private, while games are going on is in the wrong. If you're back at the evening's accomodations, fine. But if we as parents find that there's anybody connected to our dd's team like a coach, that has to drink to excess, we're out of there. I think it shows a lack of judgement that could show up at another time to tragic results.

I watched a dad drink his way through 4 games on a sunday last year then put his dd in the car to start a 3 hour ride home. Some people just can't make good decisions!

Who said who have to drink to prove your not a pansy?? So any parent or coach that has A beer at a ball park is wrong??

I think you are confusing drinking beer or wine with getting trashed. You can have a refreshing alcoholic beverage for the taste and not part of a course to drunkenness. I'm thinking that's what you mean. ;&

Im going back to my statement. After game time is one thing, at the park you are there for the kids, i have used this time for vacation as well, but at the park is just wrong. My girls would not mind if I had one but I am there for them not me, so have some at dinner, hotel kick back and relax. NOT ON THE FIELD parent or coaches, if you cant there may be a bigger problem. It will dehydrate you, and what are you teaching the kids, you cant spend a day at the park just drinking water, pop, gatoraide.

I think that any coach or parent that embarrasses themselves at the hotel by over drinking and or getting sick should be the team's new equipment bi***, and have to lug all of the equipment around, set it up and tear it down for at least a month. What do you think Lil Ron?;&

I think Urbana Fan should promote a Keg Ball tournament.

runner must drink 1 cup of beer before proceeding to the next base. If you can't drink - you can be doubled up for 2!

Play Ball!

Musty -- You're right, I was referring to getting trashed, but as far as drinking at the park, during games -- that's just not right.

I never have seen what the fun is in getting drunk. To me, that's just negative behavior.

Coaches shouldn't drink anytime the team is playing, I don't have a problem with parents having a cold one at the park if it's available. Seen alot of parents last weekend at Expressway sipping on one and there was no problems at all.
For myself I can't say I've ever had "A" Beer at the hotel after a game, but I have absoutly no problem at all with the coaches or parents dropping a few down.

Musty, i'm sure you're a load of laughs. But I've been drunk -- several times -- and I have more fun with just a couple of beers in me, rather than a case.

Glad to see someone agrees with me for once about this "too much" drinking at girls games..... After last year's USSSA State..... I felt alone in my feelings towards a "drunk" at the tournament using four letter words for two games. Glad to see the rest of you finally come out of the closet so to say.

Was the umpires that bad at Expressway last weekend ?

This thread was not started about anyone or any one team in particular as I have gotten some paranoid coaches on me now. This was started about something that I have noticed over a few years and just finally decided to post due to the fact that it is becoming acceptable and not sure why ?
