As much as I like a cold one I have never really thought about drinking one at the park. Like others have said though back at the hotel is a different story.

Boy no way would I risk drinking while coaching; not even between games. . .do the coaches not understand that you have to have not comsumed alcohol for 12 hours prior to coaching. Your insurance is void as a coach if you do. . .Not worth it. :(

As soon as I get the hotel, crack them open. I set my cell phone to the time I cannot drink after.

Better safe than sorry!

there is a problem if you need to drink to handle a bunch of young ladys. Cut loose after, sure but you are there for them not you. I would not even think of it.

We are not big drinkers in my house. I will occasionally have a beer, maybe two. But never a lot. Last year my dd and I were at a tournament out of town on my birthday. So after the games I had a couple beers. When my dd called my husband she told him I was drunk and had been drinking all night!! :lmao: He really thought I was drunk. It took a long time to convince him I had two beers for my birthday!! Now if I have a beer I put it in a red cup!! :yahoo:

ABSOLUTELY NO BEER AT THE PARK!! I agree that the girls aren't blind or stupid. But back at the hotel, some of the best times shared with the coaches and parents was with a cold one in hand. No driving home, and besides - how on earth can a true red-blooded American eat pizza without a cold beer? :yahoo:

Hmmm! I've seen alot of young lady's eating pizza after a ballgame without drinking a beer, I presume they were red-blooded American's!:;&

Not to mention the possibilities of a coach or staff member being charged Child Endangering during an event in which a player got injured and they have been drinking, one need not be drunk!

FASTPITCH! Anything else, And you're playing to SLOW!

Have witnessed coach so drunk at Tigertown last year that he couldn't even hold himself up. He is no longer with team. Although that went on a couple years better late then never. At poland and sunraze certain young team seemed to be having a keg party(Not really just cooler full of beer.). Coach was slurring words talking to players. What is wrong with people today that would find this OK. I guess as long as you win it's OK SAD. My daughter would be gone. Maybe my views are really screwed up ???????????????

WWolf, that's just wrong!! I've never witnessed that at a tourny but recently I did hear of a coaches wife giving him heck for having a few beers in the parking lot before noon during a tournament. That's not who I want coaching my dd.

Sad~you know you are an alkie, just admit it LMAO!!!!!!!!!!! That was too funny....but I wasn't the one with an enraged husband back home.....LMAO!!!!!!!!!

W~there is a difference. What you are saying you witnessed is wrong. I see most on here supporting the consumption AFTER the game. Mainly back at the hotel...where as mentioned no one is driving anywhere. I have over the years seen a couple of parents who at a long day might crack open a cold beer during the game. But never seen any of them exhibit any signs that they drank anything different than an ice tea. So unless you saw them with the bottle in hand you would never know they had it. But that is all different than getting smashed and watching or coaching a game. I look forward to those away tournaments where we all sit back relax and have a few. It is one of the rare times I can drink right along with hubby cuz there is no need for me to DD. Our children have been taught that when you are an adult it is ok to have a couple if the situation is right. They have been taught that you never drink then drive. They know this and have seen this their whole lives. If dad has a couple beers....mom drives. JMHO~

In all honesty I do not have a problem with afterwards it is just during the games or before no place for this. Heck I've even been seen with one but never around the kids during a tournement.

Never at any fields, the hotel is fine as adults are adults as long as they can control it. Me, I don't weigh enough to hold my own, so I'll pass.... I'll drive if needed..

This is part of the picking a team to play for! Never at the field, even though last weekend at Expressway Park was tempting as bad as the umpires were. After the game, at the pool, motel, or dinner, it is time to have fun and enjoy life. Some of the best stories in travel ball happened after the game. I will let Ralph, explain how much fun we had in NJ with him. I guess I would not pick a team that the coaches didn't enjoy being together with a cooler at the pool.

The title of the thread is "Getting Drunk at Fastpitch Tournaments". Getting DRUNK at the ball park around the girls is never, I repeat never, acceptable. I have no problem with responsible adults having a beer now and then at a tournament or between games in the red cup or even a few more back at the hotel after the games. It all goes back to something that seems to be an after thought in society today, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. If you don't want to have a drink, don't do it. If you can't have more than one or two with out getting out of control, don't do it. If you are back at the hotel, the girls are in bed and you can drink a 6 pack, have a good time, and not do anything stupid, go for it. If there was a parent on our team that ever got out of control in front of the girls, I like to think it would be addressed and made clear that there would be consequences if it ever happened again. For most of us, these out of town tournaments end up being family vacations for the summer. Every member of the family makes a sacrifice to play the game at the top level. Parents need to be able to enjoy it. Siblings need to be able to enjoy it (meal at favorite restaurant, swim time etc) and the girls need to enjoy it. Again the key is to excersize PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY so that everyone can have good time.

Oh, I have seen plenty. I remember a team called *********** from IL. We were at the CIGS Decatur tournament in 2004 and the coaches for their 14u team were beyond lit. The coaches would walk outside of the dug out to their wives and throw back a shot of whisky and then head back into the dugout. It was so bad by late afternoon that the head of ASA was called. He lived about 30 mins from the tournament. . .let's just say the fathers are back to being fathers and the team was penalized for the parents poor choices. Very sad.

I wouldn't want any kind of lawsuit against me or any of my staff because we cannot refrain from enjoying a cold one until we are back to the hotel. . .

I agree with all the posters that have voiced the opinion of no drinks before getting to the game, during or after the game at the ball park. The absolute worst scene I was ever a part of as a coach was 4 or 5 years ago at a early season Toledo tourney, had to do with both mom and dad having had too much to drink before they got to the evening game and then just made fools of themselves by yelling at their DD while she was on the field after making an error. The DD was in tears and I let the parents have it. Awful.

statman has been known to "accidentaly" forget to remove beer from the cooler from a previous night..all of my drinking happens at the hotel, although at NSA states last year and all the rain, i actually RAN OUT of beer--bad news! anyhow, i cant say i have seen anyone drink during the game except a few umpires who others might know do so as well--no need to name names!

I'm actually in utter amazement any coach would ever consume any alcohol at a park during a tournament. At the hotel, ok. Parents, well, I don't understand many of the things they do;&!
