Glass houses and ejections

There is alway a lot of talk on here about crazy coaches, nutty parents, out-of-control players and shifty grandparents that act unsportsmanlike. We all read the threads. We are all human and are not emotionless and at some point in our life we act like idiots. It doesn't mean we are bad people, just human. How we act after that defines what kind of people we are. How many of you have let your emotions get the best of you got yourself ejected.

Sorry---I realized I lied when I just answered your poll that I had never been ejected. ?

I had forgotten that I had been ejected as a player about 100yrs ago. ? :-/

I was a pretty fair hitter, and while playing 12u, the other side decided to intentionally walk me. ?It was a long time ago, and in a very backwater league, so I had never come across this situation before. ?

Their catcher walked about half way down the first base line and the pitcher proceeded to roll the ball on the ground to her for the next four balls. ?The fans on both sides were roaring, my coach hadn't told me what this was about, and I was mortified.

When the ump said "Take your base", I didn't know whether to s**t or go blind. ?I was furious and I didn't know if they were laughing at me or the pitcher/catcher (probably both---I'm sure the expression on my face must have been something to behold). ?

To my everlasting shame, I THREW my bat at the fence, and the ump rightly tossed me. ?:-[

As of yet, I have never been ejected while playing or coaching, Close...yes. ?I have however, been the ejector a few times (I umpire as well) and I have also been guilty of ejecting the wrong person. ?It happens...? ?:-[

I almost got ejected as the wrongfully accused once. I admit to starting the discussion, but a fan from the stands was continuing it. The ump thought it was me, but the fan admitted to it. Things calmed down and no one got the boot.

I was ejected as a player back in 12U many moons ago. We played in a league that is much like the community travel I270 or the GCGC. We had a heated rivilary with one team. I laid down a bunt, ran to first, was safe - 1st baseman got the ball, shoved me off the bag & then ump called me out. (we were on their home field) She stuck her tongue out at me & I shoved her. Got ejected & then got grounded for the rest of the my teenage life when mom & dad got me in the car. That was the last time I rumbled on the ballfield, just saved it for the boys at school. ;D

I have been ejected twice as a coach. The first ejection was years ago when me DD played rec ball and I was an assistant. The ejection was totally my fault and I have since learned to take the game a bit less serious. It seems the longer parents and coaches are around the game the more we learn to relax. Now that being said, I was recently ejected in the now famous Pickerington Fall tourney melee. ?:-? You can put me down as "wrongly accused" for that one.

I was ejected as a CYO basketball coach 3 years ago. I questioned a call from the ref and he said "One more word out of you and you will be out of here" I said "word" and he booted me...lol I have not been tossed as a Softball coach....

I know those of you who know me will find this hard to beleave but was ejected for questioning strike zone. We were losing bad and umpire widened strike zone to speed game up and I told him that was garbage he was garbage and his calls were garbage so I guess he didnt like that.

i was ejected as part of a group of people during a 5th grade basketball game at the last school i worked at about 3 years ago....i was given warnings during other basektball games when i was out of school and i would attend my dad's games, but i started to take the books for the team and that shut me up pretty good...i've only seen one coach get tossed in 3 seasons of travel, but plenty of warnings, and actually behavior is worse during school ball (don't get me started about pick-town fans--geez, embarassing!)...now that i've seen other parents go on and on about dumb situations, it makes you realize there just isn't enough time in the day to worry about conspiracy theories and homer refs trying to stick it to your team...it's fun to joke sometimes in your mind during the game, but complaining and harassing bretman's minions would have an the opposite effect of what you were trying to say in the first place....! my thing is even with the girls who complain about being rung up, "why didn't you swing at strike 1 or 2 instead of complaining about a bad called third....might as well be rung up if you don't use the bat!"
i know i'm one to preach but listen from the master of controversy, people!

LOL.... though I have never been ejected I have heard the famous warning "One more word and..." many times. Being hearing impaired I one time, in response to that warning, resorted to using sign language (clean - no cussing) to finish what I wanted to say. The blues jaw dropped and he stared at me, but I did comply with his request. I did not "say" another word. After the game, he wanted to know what I said. I told him "read Sec 1 rule 2 and you will know that I am right" or something of the sort. He left shaking his head. I don't think he faced that situation in the past.

Johnnies that is hysterical! I will have to remember that the next time I start to get overly irratated and notice I have a testy umpire. Maybe I can speak French and make him/her think I am sweet talking them. LOL ;D ;D ;D

Unfortunately the only word I know in sign language involves the use of the one finger that would get me ejected. ;)

Never ejected as a player or coach in 35 plus years.

Only two ejections handed out in the past ten years as an umpire. If I had a short fuse or thin skin, or poor game management skills, I'm sure I could have maybe tossed a few more. I do pride myself in being able to handle these situations and end them while still keeping the coach in the game. I don't tolerate bad behavior, but will issue a firm warning if things get out of hand.

And my warnings can be pretty firm! Last year I actually had two different games where a coach ran out on the field to argue a call, I listened for a few seconds and explained the call and they kept arguing about. I said, "Coach, we're done! Get off the field!", (meaning, get off the playing field and back in the dugout so we can continue the game) in my meanest old umpire voice, then turned away and walked back to my position.

Both these guys just assumed they were ejected and actually packed up their things, left the field and headed for the parking lot!

Believe me, if I ever really eject someone everybody is going to know it. They are getting the big, roundhouse, finger point KABOOM ejection that doesn't leave any doubts!

By the way, the two ejections were both players- one for cursing and throwing the bat after a strike out and the other for a runner remaining on her feet on a close play at the plate and throwing an elbow into the catcher.

The next time we meet, I will give you a sign language lesson that would help you accomplish the same effect as your "one finger" approach. LOL

never been ejected but can remember a time when my son was playing baseball
and my husband had just walked up to the field and the fans for our team were giving the
ump a rough time he turned around pointed at my husband and threw him out.. he had just walked up
and didn't even have time to say anything. (i know first time for everything) talk about being at the wrong place at the wrong time
