Good Idea for next year!

Bill,

What about the Jamboree approach? ... a credit on next years entry fees?

Technically, it may just be still considered "income" from an accounting perspective for the Organization, which then trickles down pro-rata to the "amateur athlete", whose status is governed by OHSAA?

The emails that we got back from OHSAA this last winter stated that playing for trophies, and tee-shirts, and the such was fine, but when it came to getting monies or paid berths, they considered that a violation. Even if the "Organization" recieved the monies or paid berths, it was the girls who played for them. That is their interpetation.

About the only way to enforce this is for an upset person to call OHSAA. Of course, that's how the majority of violations get reported anyway.

Just one problem ..... who loses out on the money actually? The tournament? Or, the NSA (notice, I didn't do the "N$A" thing?) loses the "nationals" fee? Or ASA for that matter?

I guess the TD's could raise the "normal" tournament "ante" (oops, I mean "fees") to cover the winner's reward of no (or reduced) Nationals fees? But then, what about those attending an ASA tournament for the competition, that plan to go to NSA, or vice versa .... But then, haven't we all agreed that we are kinda sick of higher taxes covering things for others that we don't receive benefit from personally? ... or even really want??? :D

Oh wait, ... I guess this is actually gambling? ... ahhh, okay that is better ...

Next step .... a few Blackjack Tables & a Craps Tent to kill time between games? Queue up Coop and a fundraiser .... :D :lmao:

LOL, love the concept, but see no way that it could work, really? Maybe not until the Casino laws change, then I think that we put a commission together led by Ringer, with committee members Coop, Scott, wg, and a few others (any Catholics out there??) for Tournament Casino fundraisers under the Big Top ... kill a little time between games (what honey, dd up next?? ... be right there after this roll, I'm HOT! :yahoo:) .... but please (PLEASE), leave your guns in the car though.

Thats awesome

Give me $10 on yo, and 25 on the hard 8. What? there's a game going on? Update me on my blackberry. I'll be back when I either turn this $200 into a grand or go broke, either way I love the idea. Count me in. I'll run the poker tables!:yahoo:

How about a gift card to Buffalo Wild Wings for the team to eat on? Beer(s) for dad and wings for the girls? Sounds like a win win to me.

I forgot I put this up the other day. Its not playing for a prize its playing for free if you win the tournament. The money can be used for nationals fee or refunded back to the players. i don't know just a thought, then the Ringer can keep a earnings list next to the top ten list!

I held a jr. high club tournament this year and gave 6 free wings as individuals for 1st and 2nd place winners in a Gold, Silver, and Bronze Brackets. Gave a plaque for first and second to be hung in school trophy case as well as an MVP for each 1st place team. Everyone loved it and most went straight to Buffalo Wild Wings in Marion to cash in those free wings certificates donated by BW's. I had to deal with OHSAA and they mentioned eligibility issues when I asked about returning an entry fee or offering a paid birth to Nationals. OHSAA was ok with about any prize, except giving money back to a team/coach/player!

I'm hearing jackets, t-shirts, all that. A trophie costs about $5-$7 each. The team trophies cost $20-$50 each. so (13) trophies @ 7 plus a team award is around $130 per champion. You could get 13 shirts made but sizes would be difficult. So you would have to get extras made so everyone gets the size they want. Hmmm. Jackets or Hoodies couldn't be done either. I think trophies are a total waste of money at 14u and up. Unless it is a major tournament, I don't think anyone cares. 2nd place trophies are even a bigger waste...

the BW3 Gift Card is a great idea.... really a Rooster's card would be even better.

From a GAPSS perspective, I learned my lesson on sizes - everyone regardless of size of player wants a small. As far as extras - we buy 15 per team champions/Runners-up. The sizes are what they are, the teams are asked to work it out. It has seemed to work out - it still beats a trophie or metal.

I know that about 6 girls are our team would look very interesting walking around in a size small. We have some very strong, athletic girls and one size does not fit all.

Mmmmm, softball, wings, beverages (adult kind of course)...

:)
That was my thought with giving wings, parents had to pay while kids ate free and BW's donated over 500 wings for the tournament. Lucky me, my team finished 2nd in the Silver Bracket and cold beer after 4 games was mighty nice!!!
