Do these games offer exposure potential like a showcase? What's the time/rule format- OHSAA, ASA, etc.? Does it help in the rankings regionally or nationally? How's the transportation rules regarding players riding with their parents, families hanging with their daughter, and curfew?
I can tell you, I’m not a coach, just a parent volunteer. We did go to Pigeon Forge this year. We played at Ripken, both JV and Varsity, all 25+ players. Fields are gorgeous, all turf. The number of teams there to play, not so much. Our struggled was JV Teams. The Varsity played 5 different teams. We played a High School (out of conference) but 5 minutes down the road from our home town. A rivalry who was going to take the “W” back home.
Here’s a thought for others. Ripken is $35 per day, per player and coach, basically. Ripken is run by the City. If you’re looking to save money (like us) you can request to play on the city fields (Wear Farm City Park -
http://wearfarmcitypark.com ) which are super nice. The grass is so nice; it looks like turf and it’s free.
Back to the questions. Exposure? Only the Sun and sun burn was the exposure, no College coaches. Time format full 8 innings. Seen other teams getting crushed 20+ point difference, keep playing. I don’t believe is helps with ranking.
Transportation: For us, it was a “field trip” per the Board and AD. Thus, if a parent didn’t have a signed release formed, it was a no-go. Coaches could not drive the Vans (took 2 – 15 passenger vans). Parents / Drivers had to be fingerprinted / background checks. We had a curfew and lights out during the week
I’ve heard of 2 other High Schools were the Parents did drive and managed their own kids, but not sure how that happens.
