Well this is amazing no one has anything to say (that is a first)
Is everyone waiting for Howard to reply.
I am torn between ripping everyone for not stepping up and begging you to get on board.
What a great act of kindness this could be from the softball community to kids that really could use help in a time of need

If I were Howard I certainly wouldnt be trying to help the very people that are constantly attacking me, baiting me and questioning every piece of advice they are asking for me to give them! We were making good progress on this thread and then it was turned into this AGAIN. Howard doesnt have anything he has to prove! I am sure it costs Bustos alot of money for travel and lodging so to even expect her to foot that cost is shameful of you. Everybody and their brother ask her to do this stuff. In case you havent noticed it...female fastpitch players dont make great salaries! If this were truly just about doing a good deed it would be one thing...it isnt. Unfortunately, it is more about calling Howard out. Dont fall into the trap Howard. Count us out!!!

First of all I am not obsessed with anyone (except maybe Martina Mcbride)
As far as the fundraiser I will skip on the 5 hr clinic and just donate my money

as far as the hitting here you go

first a godd load straight back no wrapp around
a straight line of force move to the pitcher with the front elbow
a slight shift in weight of the hips to the pitcher at to touch
then bringing the hands through on a path close to the body (inside the ball) while not letting the back elbow pass the hands (bat lag)
while kepping palm up palm down until after contact
and here is where you will have some fun
finishing high on a lower pitch and a LITTLE lower level on a higher pitch
and finaly having a finish with good balance in any sport it it hard to finish correctly and have bad mechanics

You did pick up a couple of good points at the Cincy Static clinic you attended that Howard put on for us.

We will do something with the coaches, it will be fun and it looks like we will donate some money to The Ronald Mcdonald house. The idea to get Bustos to play HR derby was just that, an idea. We will still have fun and do some good for a charity.

First of all If there was a true interest in doing this from WHO EVER US IS I would find a way to pay her travel and hotel $ and meals only ( no fee)
Because if a high % of people on this board would participate that would be a huge $ amount and there would be plenty of money to pay her way.
and after all If I were the greatest hitter in the world I think (and I do believe that) I would be more than happy to help my hiting instructor that got me there.

as far as the hitting clinic i do not even want to respond.

Howard i am sure I missed something on the big zone question please feel free to elaborate
I am always open to new Ideas

I feel absolutely certain coach McQueen did that without referencing any sources, pretty impressive.

To be honest alot of that came from some guy in KY
I think he might be one of a very few college coaches on this board
thanks chip for all the drills and insight that only you have given me about all of the parts of the game not just hitting

Crystl does a lot for charity of which I will not speak about as that is her private life and I hope you respect that you will respect that.

She sets her own schedule not me and has a scheduler for the western part of the country and the eastern half of the country.

Again if you come to the Bustos Blast you do not have to attend the clinic and you can pay a gate fee and still see her hit. It is a fund raiser for her team as funding is done by a lot of travel teams and colleges however I am not sure if they give any money to charity from those funds received so you would have to ask them personally.

I never taught her how to hit as her uncle Jessie and dad did long before I ever met her. Uncle Jessie is deceased and dad George is still alive. Have I helped her? Ask her yourself.

You did a good job explaining the Big Zone and it is almost word for word as we present it at the clinics so you must have taken notes as someone said you were at East Central. Based on your tone I am surprised to understand you stayed however.

The Big Zone demonstration goes a long way with the kids and coaches in my opinion who swing down and level on the ball as they can visually see how short or long their bat stays in the Big Zone. By measuring a before and after it drives the point home on why we think keeping the hands inside the path of the ball is so important.
We use a piece of caution tape and clothes pins to mark when the bat starts in the plane of the ball and when it exits and use a tape measurer to show the kids and coaches what a difference it makes.

We tell them about Albert Pujolses Big Zone being measured at 60 inches; source GQ magazine Sep. 06 and Crystl's 72 inches; source my garage and various clinic's.

Most kids will have an initial Big Zone of 28 to 36 inches or less in some cases and afterwards 46 to 54 inches or more.

Well, I am definitely on "Sonnys" team just as you are an Assistant on Chipps "Shock" summer travel team...we will leave it at that! Your responses show how loyal you are to him as your teams leader as you should be. Sounds like he has taught you alot this year. Loyalty is an admirable thing! You should be loyal to those that have helped you...I am. Please address me as who I represent "Cincy Static". I am sure "Coach Sonny" would appreciate it!

Daron,

I too recall seeing you at the Static event that Howard did...I think you stayed the whole time...didnt you? I didnt see Mandy there so I guess it was just you. I assume you came to learn Howards techniques? Atleast it looks like it based on the good hitting info you posted earlier. Thats what this thread is supposed to be about...getting the perspectives of others to learn as much as we can. Why cant you just stick to that premise here instead of all the arguing and posturing...it killed our last thread!

Howard

To be honest with you I have studied hitting since 1984 and have watched and listened to every ball player baseball or fastpitch I could find.
I have been to several clinics before yours some good some not so.
I like the tape for swing path
but I have had my own opinions about hitting for a long time
and I have always related them to what I call line of force.

REMEMBER NONE OF US WERE BORN KNOWING EVERYTHING WE HAVE ALL LEARNED FROM ANOTHER PERSON.

Daron,

I think we all can respect your sentiment. I try to take the best from everybody I come across and apply it to my team in a way that I think best suits them. If I cannot help them I seek those that can. I totally agree with your quote! Please expand on "line of force"...thanks!

I agree with your quote.

The first time I remember hearing the term line of force was from Coach Bastian in 2002 the first time I ever worked with Crystl. Chip was here and I questioned coach B if what he meant was linear and he said yes so I said why line of force and his answer was the kids seem to understand that term better. You are one of the few that I know who use it.

You should give credit with people who have helped you along your journey; I try to do it at every clinic as I think that is important when someone gives you their time....the list keeps getting longer.

A quote from a book The purpose Driven Life, "The importance of things can be measured by how much time we are willing to invest in them. The more time you give to something, the more you revel its importance and value to you. If you want to know a person's priorities, just look at how they use their time."

"Time is your most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can make more money, but you can't make more time. When you give someone your time, you are giving them a portion of your life that you'll never get back. Your time is your life. That is why the greatest gift you can give someone is your time."

Ok, can someone tell me the main differences between the rotational swing and the
trans-rotational swing.

Ok, can someone tell me the main differences between the rotational swing and the
trans-rotational swing.

Chip I will give it a try however Adair explains what happens in his Physics of Baseball book and this is on line....http://www.thefreelibrary.com/McGwire+at+bat-a021196063

My take on it is we are linear or on our line of force if we are striding straight ahead or what some term as translatory. Our hands are moving somewhat linear inside the path of the ball and then somewhere around or near toe touch our linear phase is completing and we begin to plant the heel and rotational forces are starting and this rotary or angular motion starts to occur shoulders, torso etc. turning or rotating.

Much of the linear and rotational controversy is tied to Lau and Williams in my opinion and that is all I have to say about that as that could be a thread by itself.

However Epstein demonstrates this by swinging a ball on a string and says that is rotational...period. In my opinion you can hold the string and throw the ball and when it gets to the end of the rope depending on the angle you throw the ball it will become angular and pivot or become rotational.

Angular movement is rotational movement and the stride is linear or translatory and the pivot point of the swing which is said to be about 6 inches below the knob of the bat is a moving axis in my opinion until you decide to swing the bat and the bat takes a right angle to your release of where your shoulder elbow and wrist unhinge or release the bat based on the flight of the ball.

Bottom line is I see it as linear and then becoming more rotational or what I think is semi circular or elliptical and not totally rotational.

The step stop, kick the hip out and throw the hands at the ball hitters may think that is purely rotational in my opinion.
