How often is your 12u team practicing ?

We have pretty much gone twice a week since last Fall. Every now and then we would give them a week off.

Throw in a few indoor tournaments during the winter and a few scrimmages and it seems to be enough.

Since we have been outside we try to scrimmage during the week and have a solid 2 1/2 hour practice on Sunday. Of course pitchers and catchers work 3 or 4 days a week.

Since 9 of our players also play Middle School ball (and will get 20 + games in) we start to take it easy on them somewhat until the begining of May.

Most 12U players should be playing school ball. It's the shortest season and they get to represent their communities. If schools do not have sanctioned teams then parents should try to form a club team. It builds character and helps high school varsity and junior varsity teams. There is nothing like being able to go play games for your community and then hit a dairy freeze afterwards. No trophies involved that gather dust. Just plain get to play with my friends ball. Sometimes frustrating most of the time rewarding. Sometimes a star will shine. You will end up reading about them in the paper during high school years which is forever.

Ours has a Friday Pitching practice then they are in a Saturday Hitting League, and up until last week we played in an indoor league at Gateway Sports Complex. Now that the indoor league is over they are practicing outside at least once a week on top of the pitching practice and Hitting League.

Team practices once a week in fall and plays fall tourney. Gives families a break in Dec. Starts Jan to mid-Feb. once a week indoors. Feb. tourney. Break March. April once a week till schools out. Start tourneys mid-May .. not sure Spring/Summer practice schedule. I would imagine once/twice per week. I like the Dec. (Holiday) break and Feb. (Basketball/Bad weather) break. DD can practice at cages or with individual coaches if you want or just take a break. Only my opinion .. practice hard when you practice .. but there is more to life .. and DD/Parents get less burned out with a few winter breaks.

We have been practicing twice a week since November. We also did some pitcher and catcher work once a week but we have had conflicts with basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, etc., so it's been hard to get everybody together on a regular basis. Now we are getting into the season, I hope we can get more individual work in.

The team practiced indoors two days a week for the last 5 months
Pitcher/Catchers an additional two day a week for the last 5 months
We also played in two winter leagues, two fall tournaments and two winter tournaments

So many of our girls were going 4-5 days a week (or more) thru out the winter months, or as much as possible with soccer, bball, vball, gymnastics, cheering, etc.

We plan to continue with team practices two days a week, one pitch/catch, one hitting throughout the spring/summer. That will depend on "mother nature" unfortunately.

Players are asked to do work on drills at home between practices, how many do them? It will show as the season goes on. But it is amazing were we've come since Sept, but still have a long ways to go!

Manitoudan, I feel your pain! My dd team practices once a week if we're lucky! They haven't practiced for 2 weeks, and have only played 4 scrimmages. One against a 10u team. I'm slightly worried about the season.

fastpitchkt, If you are playing or practicing with your HS team, you may be inelligable to play when you get to HS. Might want to check into that.

If she is not an 9'th grader? 12 year old in then 9'th . You are going to make your high school coach very unhappy. I'm sure if you read prior posts you will find the penality for this infraction. The Bear does an excellent job of cutting and pasting the OHSAA rules.
