I have heard that Howard endorses Coach Hoiles, is there anyone else in Ohio that teaches this style and teaches it well.

We are looking to bring someone into Western PA to do this. Any ideas or recommendations.

also if you can post contact information it would also be appreciated.

Thank you.

Bob does a great job. Very nice man.
Cliff Philen is very good at it but not sure he has time to do it. I will forward to him.

dd practiced with a team last year that would bring in Bob Hoiles- very impressed by his drills and the way he works with the girls. That being said, see if you could get Hoiles to travel to W. PA and do a couple clinics (in small groups >10). His practices are very intense and demand alot of focus.

You might also want to send a PM to NAC or Warren Wolff to get contact information for Cliff Philen- not sure if he "travels" but I know he teaches Kabota fielding instruction and has put on clinics for the Outlaws organizations in the past.

Another good one for infielding is Sheila Gulas at Ashland University. I do know that Shelia travels and puts on clinics for various travel teams.

Why don't you just schedule Howard??? He will be in Ohio early next year... maybe sooner if you want him.
Why others may teach his method, there is really only one Howard Kobata.

Bob H. is fantastic. He works really well with the girls, is thorough and very knowledgeable. DD has attended clinics with Howard over the years and actually prefers to work with Bob (no disrespect to Howard, of course!)

I would be hesitant to say that Kobata "endorsed" anyone to teach his methods. I would have to hear it from his mouth before believing it, not saying Hoiles is not a good instructor, but just because you have been to some of his clinics, bought his dvd's and now instruct is not an endorsement.

The reason I say this is because I approached Howard several years back about becoming a certified instructor for him as I have been teaching and using his methods for close to 8 years. Talked at length about how we could set it up and was even willing to pay a percentage of my fees to him and he wanted no part of it.

I guess for one reason it would take away from his chances for business here in Ohio, plus he just didn't think people would want to become certified and pay him when they could just buy his dvd and start instructing on their own. Much to what I am seeing being done here in Ohio.

I teach his methods and call them by name so Howard gets his "due" but after talking with Howard I would never take money for instructing somebody elses ideas without his "endorsement". FWIW

Have to agree with Lady_Knights on this subject. I have been to some of the above mentioned names and no disrespect, but they are not Howard Kobata. Plus Howard has changed the way he teaches throwing in the last couple of years. Long story behind it, but that was one of the reasons behind the new DVD.

Agree with Martin on this one.

I've seen no difference in the way he teaches throwing between his 1st video and his new video. Maybe I missed something, but it's virtually the exact same way. His old video was a summary of his new video. The new video is much more detailed, still teaches side throws, toes pointed in when in the ready position, shorter loads on throws etc.

I would say Lady Knights is correct on most of his points especially there is no way Howard would endorse anyone. When Howard was here last week some of us discussed with him having Howard certify people to teach his style. He said he would not know where to begin plus he felt it would take away business from him. I think Ohio is one of the states he receives most of his business. However he did say he did not mind if people conduct clinics and teach his style as long as he is given credit, in fact he told us we should do follow up clinics since most of the girls that attended would more than likely not have someone to reinforce what they have learned. He said what he does not like is when people teach his style and use his drills and give it another name or call it their own. That is why he now calls his teachings “Kobata Style”. I can see his point since I have attended coaches clinics where some coaches have discussed fielding and have basically described Howards style but called it some other name or method. I have been teaching his style of fielding for 8 years too. I learned from people whom either attended his clinics or watched his first videos but they never mentioned Kobata anything to me. I just thought they picked this up from baseball or something. I never knew it derived from Howard until I first met him 4 years ago and attended his clinics then it clicked. Like Fast said Howard will be here again early next year. Why not learn right from the master.

Trakin, I've seen you in action and you know your Kobata stuff...I know you've watched the new video, did you see any major changes he's made?

Yeah I agree with you, I feel it's just a lot more coach/parent friendly.

Uber sent you a PM. It's not major, he just has a better understanding of throwing.
