I have seen the old double plunk in HS and showcase ball not at 12u and just from the catcher...

Last year DD hit a HR and was plunked next AB in a showcase. Then got the ole double plunk on the next pitch from the catcher.
Pitcher and Catcher both thought it was funny... pitcher from TN catcher from SC so it happens all over.
QDSS coach told her it happens and if that is all the game they have so be it, play your game...DD was %issed to say the least but kept her cool and had a good showing.

Sorry, unless you're ahead by a ton, or down by a ton, I can't see the play being called.

(But, then again, these are Girls we're talking about. And we all know how one girl can "offend" another just by looking at her. So maybe it was intentional...)

I think you are looking into it way too much. First off they are 12 and serious or not, they don't have that much control...18u players barely have that much control. Secondly, I teach every catcher I have ever instructed to throw the ball into the slide zone. It keeps the ball close to the bag so the 1st baseman can handle it and if she misses it, hopefully the runner will keep it close by. I've never instructed our catchers to hit a runner, that would defeat the purpose of throwing it down to get her out.....but I assure you that over the years ALL of our catchers have hit runners, especially at 12u when they are starting to get big and strong and haven't quite mastered their new bodies yet. Instruct your runners to dive back to the base properly and that will reduce injury from the pick off throws. We've had plenty of runners hit by a stray bullet from the catchers cannon, it's part of the game but we do our best to teach them techniques to reduce the risk of serious injury. If you are going to be aggressive on the bases, you better get used to it....it won't be the last time.

So is this any different than when a catcher hits a girl in the back, that is running in fair territory, after a bunt?

Ok why is the first baseman going from bunt coverage and going around behind the runner? No one else on base and I'm pretty sure the girl on first wasn't a base stealing threat. Not much risk to the defense on an overthrow with the right fielder ready to back it up. Then there is the little matter that the girl on first was head coach's dd. I'm saying the odds of this being accidental are less than 20%
