All - yesterday (MLK day), my organization hosted some 14u and 16u doubleheaders at Rialto Sports Complex (formerly known as SWOBAT) in West Chester, OH. Jim Hamrick's Ohio Thunder 01 was there and his talented team played exceptionally well, but what I really want to call out is the class and character that Jim and team displayed. In their second game they were scheduled to play a newer and younger team. I asked Jim to take it easy on them because they were missing some key players (pitcher and catcher) and most of the girls were new to Select ball. Jim did exactly that by limiting the number of at bats, having runners leave early, etc. In a very classy move, Jim "loaned" his pitchers to the other team so everyone would get more out of the scrimmage.
I have known of Jim for several years and even played in one of his tournaments many moons ago, so I wasn't totally surprised by his actions but he definitely represented the Ohio Thunder in a very positive way yesterday. We often see a lot of childish and questionable behavior called in this Forum (and sometimes rightly so!), so I wanted to a take a moment and recognize some character and class!!!
