Can anyone explain the event televised on ESPN? It is billed as the 12u Softball Little League World Series. I have never seen or heard of anything leading up to this but have seen it on television for several years now. I'm just curious what association sanctions it etc.

It is all community based. My community rec association is a Little League chartered organization. When our season is done, our all star teams play in the district tournament. Win and advance to the State, win and advance and so on and so on. This is what Poland finished runner-up in last year. There are some different rule changes but for the most part it is strait up softball.

I was just happy to see they got rid of the grass infield. That used to just drive me nuts a few years ago.

As they advance do they consolidate the All-Star teams up to a certain layer?

Not sure what the question is, but the community-for example Elyria-may have 4 city teams. The best girls are voted on by the managers and those 12-13 girls become the all star. The girls you are watching now have fought as the same team from all star district to state champs to regional. Once they win the regional the same group of girls become the central team. For example tonight the central team is playing which began from a little all star team from Sterling Illinois

Hope that helps.

That's what I was asking, thanks. I didn't know if they won their "district" if they then combined with players from another "district" and then went forward from there. However you cleared that all up.

Thanks again.

Dear ESPN,
Please hire new announcers for your fastpitch coverage at all levels. Beth Mowans and Michele Smith have been fine through the years, but it's time for a change.
Thank you.

To add to that; My daughter hasn't played little league for some yeas now. But from what I remember it has to be the players from the same district; I can remember you had to show proof of residenacy (electric bill, etc); also players needed to play a certanin percentage of scheduled little league games (80% ??), So if you were a stud player and just moved into town with a week left of regular season you could not play on all stars. This was how it was and I know some rules have changed.

they should give the girls the amount of coverage they give the boys.

It was a fun series to watch on TV, and I agree with the post, I wish we could see more games like the baseball world series.

That rule is still the same. Each girl on the all-star team must show 3 proofs of residency and a birth certificate. They must have been a resident for at least 6 months prior to the start of the regular season.

I did notice that a Central player said they had been working out over the winter. From what I understand of the rules, a little league all-star team is not permitted to practice together as a team until after the regular season starts. I know some areas get around this by setting up travel teams that consist of their all-star team players so they can work out all year.

They can't start practicing or playing until a certain date as "the all star team" but most coaches already know when their goal is what we watched last night. They practice and probably most of them are from the same travel team.

The way around it is that the all stars aren't named until a certain date either and the team can hide behind the "we don't know who will be chosen, we are just having fun today."

I heard the girl talk about th winter as well as that "they" practice in the winter. I am sure they were talking about the travel team. Girls that age get confused about some of the questions.

Was watching the Big League WS ( 14 - 18 yo ) and they still had the grass infield. Couldn't figure out why there were not more bunts as far back as the corners were.
