St. Ambrose closed the CCAC portion of its schedule by dropping a doubleheader by scores of 7-1 and 8-2 at No. 22 Olivet Nazarene Tuesday afternoon.
A four-run Tiger first inning was too much for the Bees to overcome in the opener.
Morgan Krieger drove in the lone SAU run with a single in the third to score
Colleen Barrett to cut the score to 4-1. But Olivet Nazarene (34-8, 21-1 CCAC) got that run back in the fourth and tacked on two more in the sixth.
Madelyn Thompson and
Libby Munsterman each finished with two hits.
Jane Thomas took the loss.
St. Ambrose got off to a fast start in the second game, putting together three hits in the opening inning. Thompson knocked in
Christina Pembrook to give the Bees a 1-0 lead.
After ONU scored twice in the bottom of the first, Pembrook's sacrifice fly scored
Olivia McClintock in the third to tie the game at 2-2. The Tigers came right back, scoring three times in the bottom of the third, two of the runs unearned. Two innings later, Olivet put up three more runs to break things open.
Pembrook was charged with the loss.
Ella Specht, who worked 2 1/3 innings in the opener, tossed 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in Game 2.
McClintock went 3-for-4 while Thompson picked up two hits in the loss.
SAU (30-16, 15-7 CCAC) will close the regular season with a non-conference doubleheader at Lincoln College Saturday before competing in the CCAC Tournament beginning May 2.
