Pitching and Pitchers Discussion Pitching Instruction in NE Ohio-reccomendation

fpitchdad, I am going to admit that my DD takes lessons from Hillhouse and I drink the kool-aide too. However, As someone who's done his homework on pitching coaches, having been to multiple ones and countless clinics I could cite 1000 reasons why we are on the path we are. But just as a point of reference, you said that quote that was mentioned is the reason you don't go there. Let me tell you from first hand experience that it's being taken way out of context here and misrepresented a little. The overall point being made is correct by jcii and crystle, that he will not divulge where his students go to school, etc. because he doesn't want to take credit for their hard work. Bill feels every kid gets the same training, it's what they do with it that makes them different. But in saying what he said, he is also referring to himself. It's not a "shot" at someone else, it's a statement of fact. Most parents hang their hat on the college thing and view that as the pinnacle. And the point lost here is that almost every college in the country has a softball program so to say my daughter played in school doesn't carry the same clout in 2011 as it once did when only the best got to play there. Yet the stigma is still in place that "sally jones" played in college so she must be outstanding and her coach is the key. If you wanted to ask Bill privately about some of his students and where they are at school, he may tell you. But he won't post it on his site or put it anywhere else, it's how he is. He has said at a clinic I attended once a pitching coach's most prize pupil's aren't the ones who make division 1 scholarships, they will likely play in college and be successful anyway. Instead, it's about taking the ones who many give up on or don't have the natural tools and making them into competitive pitchers, helping them to enjoy pitching despite not having the "gift". Yes, I'm paraphrasing there.

This thread has gone way over the original question. Bill Croft out of Mineral Ridge is a very good coach. Croft in Mineral Ridge and Hileman in Alliance have probably sent more pitchers to college than any others--in those two areas.
