CHURCH HILL — Senior Night is always special. Volunteer’s baseball team made it extra special on Monday. The Falcons scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 13-12 nonconference victory over Sullivan Central that extended their winning streak to three. Bobby Montgomery capped the dramatic rally when, with two outs, he raced home on a passed ball to send Volunteer’s 10 seniors out with the victory. Three seniors contributed heavily on Senior Night. Gabe Musick finished 4-for-5 and just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. He also added three RBIs. Ethan Sargent was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run batted in, and Gabe Bass went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Matt Long was outstanding for the Cougars, recording a 4-for-5 performance that included an inside-the-park home run. DOBYNS-BENNETT 2, ELIZABETHTON 1 KINGSPORT — Tribe pitchers Brogan Beckner, Jeremiah Ball and Jackson McDavid combined on a two-hit shutout and Dobyns-Bennett held on to beat the Cyclones. Beckner struck out seven batters over three scoreless innings before giving way to Ball, who gave up just one hit. McDavid allowed just one hit as well and held on after Ethan Eggleston stretched his single to a double and Matthew Dailey scored on the throw in the final inning. Beckner doubled in the first inning and Aiden Scanlen scored on the same play. The Indians’ other run came off John Deason’s RBI single to right field that score Aaron Farley. Tre Shoun gave up just four hits and one walk in the loss. SULLIVAN SOUTH 12, JOHNSON COUNTY 5 MOUNTAIN CITY — After falling into an early five-run hole, the Rebels exploded for the final 12 runs of the game to ambush the homestanding Longhorns. James Seto drove in two runs and scored three, and Drew Creech had a two-run double for Sullivan South. Austin Monds and Cory Williams each scored two runs, and Tristan Griffith came in relief of Austin Harjo in the third to get the win. Bud Icenhour had two hits and two runs scored for Johnson County. Reise Stout had two RBIs, and Jayden Joiner and Weston Throop had two hits apiece. UNAKA 13, HANCOCK COUNTY 0 SNEEDVILLE — John Boy Ramsey recorded 10 strikeouts in a no-hitter for Unaka. John Wesley Hardin had a two-run double, and Ramsey had two hits. Isaac Hill had a hit and finished with two RBIs. SCIENCE HILL 10, UNICOI COUNTY 0 JOHNSON CITY — The Hilltoppers used a nine-run fifth inning to defeat the Blue Devils in a matchup of Big 7 and Three Rivers champions. Quinn Boyle and Chance Hall combined on a one-hit shutout. Ben Edwards and Caleb Marmo each had two hits and Garrett Stiltner drove in two runs. David Bryant tripled and Matthew Levi doubled. RYE COVE 7, CASTLEWOOD 2 CLINCHPORT — Holton Carter struck out 13 Castlewood batters while going 3-for-3 at the plate with three runs scored to lead the Eagles to the Cumberland District win. Tyler Starnes, Payton Qualls and Cory Hensley also picked up hits for Rye Cove. Rye Cove broke open a 2-2 game in the fifth inning by scoring five runs. Castlewood’s Jonah Cornett had an RBI single. SOFTBALL RYE COVE 9, CASTLEWOOD 1 CLINCHPORT — The Lady Eagles kept their spot atop the Cumberland District standings with the win over visiting the Lady Blue Devils. Hailey Byington was strong for Rye Cove (9-6, 6-1) both on the mound and at the plate in the victory. Byington went 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored. She also recorded 10 strikeouts from the circle in picking up the complete-game win. Ashley Smith went 2-for-3, including a two-run home run in the fifth, for Rye Cove. Kennedy Taylor added a double for the Lady Eagles. Castlewood (1-8, 1-4) got a double from Zoe Phillips. J.I. BURTON 7, COUNCIL 1 NORTON — Tia Bates helped out winning pitcher Bailey Sturgill by going 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Sturgill picked up the complete-game win for the Lady Raiders (8-7), scattering seven hits. JOHN BATTLE 6, TENNESSEE HIGH 4 BRISTOL, Tenn. — One swing of the bat ultimately decided the interstate contest. Maggie Deel delivered a two-run home run in the top of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie and give the Lady Trojans (9-3) the lead for good. Tennessee High (6-18) loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh but could not push across a run. SCIENCE HILL 15, VOLUNTEER 2 JOHNSON CITY — The Lady Hilltoppers hit four home runs — including a grand slam by Kasey Bennett — in the Big 7 Conference romp against the Lady Falcons. Shayna Price went 3-for4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Mackenzie Powell and Sejal Neas also homered, Gia Hickman was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Jannon Glaspie had two hits and Gracie Holt doubled. Neas was the winning pitcher before giving way to Blake West. They combined to throw 46 strikes on 68 pitches. Jersey Wines and Taylor Ward each had two hits for Volunteer. CHEROKEE 4, DANIEL BOONE 1 GRAY — Makenna Dietz had a single, stole second and came home on an Ashlyn Matherly hit to left field to give the Lady Trailblazers the lead in the second inning. The score remained 1-0 until the sixth when the Lady Chiefs used three hits and an error to go up 3-1, and they tacked on a run in the seventh. Ashley Starnes singled for the only other hit for Daniel Boone, which stranded seven baserunners. Nickolette Ferguson, who struck out six batters, allowed five hits in taking the loss. ELIZABETHTON 6, SULLIVAN EAST 0 ELIZABETHTON — Lauren Brickey gave up just four hits and two walks in a shutout win, also helping her cause by going 2-for-4 at the plate. Maggie Johnson was 2-for-3, Haley Fair had one hit, two walks and two RBIs and Bailey Creasy scored twice for the Lady Cyclones. Kaylen Shell, Macie Hermann, Maci West and Kira Dillard all drove in runs. Jillian Shackleford suffered the loss for the Lady Patriots. Cayden Bawgus and Kylee Wolfe each had doubles. DAVID CROCKETT 2, GRAINGER 1 GREENEVILLE — Lenzie Jenkins had a walk-off RBI single to score Riley Hope and lift the Lady Pioneers over the Lady Grizzlies on Sunday in the championship game of the 32nd annual Tiny Day Classic tournament. Kara Weems struck out five and gave up just two hits to earn the victory. Hope, the tournament MVP, hit a solo home run. Sydney Fox recorded her 200th career hit during the tournament, and she and Reagan Miller were among the scholarship winners. DAVID CROCKETT 10, CHEROKEE 9 GREENEVILLE — Reagan Miller was 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Lenzie Jenkins was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lift the Lady Pioneers over the Lady Chiefs in the Tiny Day semifinals. Crockett scored nine runs in the first inning only to see Cherokee, which got two hits each from Grace Jones and Lexie Johnson and a grand slam by Dazi Brown, come back to tie. Kara Weems, in relief of starter Matty McKee, picked up the win by recording five strikeouts over three hitless innings. GRAINGER 9, DANIEL BOONE 5 GREENEVILLE — The Lady Grizzlies scored five runs in the first inning and it proved to be too much for the Lady ’Blazers to overcome in the semifinals of the Tiny Day Classic. Nickolette Ferguson had a solo home run for Daniel Boone.
