Oops, there is also a Cage MVP pitcher. It is awarded based on their pitching performance.
There was also an all tournament team that was selected just before the end of the final
games and cage sessions on Sunday. ?Two pitchers were selected along with three outfielders, four infielders and a catcher. ?
I'd also like to add that my daughter and I both thought that the mini profiles were
a little overstated. ?We chose not to send Kirt her information, because we thought the guns low balled speeds last year. ?We also knew that submitting fastball speeds was
silly when the best pitchers don't throw fastballs in games. ?My daughter might have thrown 10 in the entire weekend, and she wouldn't have thrown those if the catcher hadn't struggled catching the rise and drop curve. ?The importance of a good catcher can't be over stated when you are talking about how a pitcher looks in game situations.
Catchers that haven't seen speed and movement working together can't really be expected to handle it seamlessly. ?The pitchers who stuck to what they do best performed rather well, and the ones that threw fastballs got pounded. ?
Overall, ?I'd say the showcase was as advertized. ?There were tons of coaches, and lots of recruiting going on. ?As one of the lucky ones who was still there when the last pitch was thrown I saw several coaches still talking to unsigned seniors. ?
