I wanted to see what and were is the best place to clock pitches from. The type of guns have already been discussed so assuming you use the same one each time.

So we all know we have to be aligned with the pitch and any angle reduces accuracy. But I see a lot of people clock from behind the pitches and some behind fences and some behind the catcher.

My thoughts are, and without too many physics rationales I cant begin to understand or explain frequency returned radar signal caused by the Doppler effect, bla bla bal... You stand behind the catcher, unobstructed...

So the question is, how much on average do results vary behind the pitcher or backstop? what about angles I.e. off just slightly from right in front..

How many pitches is a good enough sample? what about ambient temperature? If its colder does it impact speed?

Also any one have any experience with the rotational guns? would like to hear those experiences and how those individuals feel about speed.

And I know speed is meaningless.. Its all about movement.. But us dads are obsessed with speed..

Directly behind the catcher with a Jugs gun. But beware, as it will give accurate speeds that 95% of dads won't like.

Or you could stand directly behind the pitcher as well with the JUGS. This will avoid any flinching that may occur when standing behind the catcher thinking you will get hit by pitched ball. But still, you must beware, this will still give accurate speeds on pitches that most dads will not agree with.
