reasons for a third coach

My asistant coach and I have been talking about how much we need a third coach. ?I want somebody in the dugout when he and I are coaching the bases. ?I believe that at times the girls probably talk too much about everything but the game at hand. ?I want help to keep them focused. ?I also think that what juniors and seniors say are not for freshmen ears (and yes I know the freshmen have probably heard it all anyway). ?Also, we hit a hitstick when we are in the hole, and should be timing the pitcher when on deck. ?I want someone there to make sure the swings are correct.

In any case, if I am going to sell the idea of a third coach to my school board, how can I do without making myself look bad?

(I had to ?mispell asistant to get the filter to take it.)
Thanks!

Safety?

You gotta have 2 on the bases, that's a given. Perhaps school board would react to the concept of safety given that bats are swinging in warmup areas, and organization is important. A school board might react to the fear of negative consequesnces, if you can't convince them of the positive impact and opportunity associated with the 3rd coach. Also, what does your regional competition have, perhaps that would help illuminate the need as well?

I have been trying to modify the first line of my statement. ?It starts off with "My asistant coach and I..."

That's the "naughty word" filter, which is taking what it thinks you're saying ("my backside", but not exactly that) and replacing it with a nicer version ("I disagree").

WVSSAC does not address the number of coaches. That said, I'm sure that the BOE or the School isn't going to add anymore paid positions. I would find a "Team Mom", and have her be the one in the dugout. Team Mom's come in handy, I have used them since 9 year old rec ball, and most of them are very knowledgable about the game and have good organizational skills.

are you trying to get the 3rd position a paid position? if thats the case then the board might have something to say, if not, i dont see why they'd have a problem with it.
in my cheap area, only the head coach gets paid, assistants get no compensation.

What I really want is a non-parent. ?In order for this to happen, I think it may have to be a paid position to get someone to do it.

Maybe, I am a non-parent volunteer asistant for a high school team. I am mostly doing it in the hopes to further my knowledge as a coach so that one day I can be the head coach of a high school team. You may be able to find a girl that just returned home from college willing to fill this unpaid position.

Isn't there somewhere in the OHSAA rules that a female is required to be present when you have male coaches coaching a female sport? Or is that just for away trips? We have a female trainer that accompanies the team when on the road.
You colud also argue the fact that you need a knowlegable assistant in the dugout to keep score and stats. The first and third base coaches look kind of silly keeping stats while on the field. Good luck in getting the school or board to pay for a third coach.

Mark,
I have been lucky enough the past couple of years to have 2 unpaid varsity assistant coaches, one of them was to be the JV coach, but haven't had a JV team last 2 years, so he helped with varsity. Anyway, the previous 2 years my JV coach was on the bench and my hitting coach was at 1st, we batted .191 and only scored 56 runs. This year I moved my JV coach to 1st and put my hitting coach in the dugout. What a huge difference this made. He was able to talk to the girls before and after their at bats, and help with corrections and adjustments. Our team batting average is up over .300, OB% @ .438, and we have scored 132 runs. Get someone into the dugout, it will make a huge difference.

Don't recall any requirement like this, although from a liability stand point I can see where a school might do this.
