What are the guidelines for recruits working out with college a team. Do they ?vary based on the Div. 1,2,3, NAIA ranking. I have heard some contradictory information. Any input would be helpful.

We have been told that it varies according to division. I believe Div. I and II (and possibly NAIA) allow you to practice with the team one time, but it cannot be during softball season assuming practice involves softball.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

You may not practice with a division I team, ever!!! Unless you are on the team. You may attend camps, but you may not practice with the team. I don;t think you can for Div 3 either.....but I know you can at the NAIA. I do not know about Div 2.

You are NOT permitted to work out/try out for an NCAA Division I or Division III softball team
You may work out/try out with a Division II team.

Hard to keep track of all the rules. I knew about Div. II, but I wasn't sure about Div. I.

Where does one find these rules, and when you can and can't talk to a coach ect.

I believe, as indicated by a coach I spoke with last night in D-II, that a student athlete may not practice with the college team if the student athlete is 'in the quarter/semester' as the season of thier sport.

Just sharing what I was told via college coach and his checking with the compliance officier at his college.

You or your daughter may call the coach at any time in her career.
And the coach/school rep may contact you or your daughter at any point UNTIL they are a freshman, that's when the NCAA views them as a bona fide potential recruit.
You also may visit the coach(es) at his/her campus and talk freely at ANY point in time. Until the official visit, however, all expenses are on the parent/recruit.
Of course, the college coach may contact the player's coach (assuming it's not mom/dad) at any point as well.

fullcount,
you can find all the info on recruiting rules on the website
www.ncaa.org

It does get confusing, since many of the rules are different for Div I, II, III and NAIA.
