@bergy1331:
I don't think anyone is accusing Cincy Doom 96 of ducking competition. That team certainly plays an aggressive schedule the rest of the season.
I think it is a real shame that these three age group competitions for USA/ASA berths were not sufficiently or timely advertised to the Ohio fastpitch community.
A word of advice for coaches in the future, however: under the ASA Code, these tournament have to be published to the JO Olympic teams by January 1 of each year. I am fairly positive that the ASA considers this to be accomplished when the tournaments are posted on the ASA site. Just go the the ASA site and drill down until you find the listing of tournaments. For this year, it appears at
http://www.asasoftball.com/tournaments/current_finals.asp
EDIT: HOLD THE PHONE. I just got done playing around with the link above and discovered that, to the best of my efforts, there is no listing whatsoever for this Region 9 tournament on the national ASA web site. So how did the notice provision under the ASA Code get satisfied for this tourney? I'm not saying that the tourney should not be held and that the Region 9 berths should not be awarded, but boy, as far as I can see there is no way that teams other than those attending the Metro Cincy meeting could have known about this tournament before the April posting on OFC.
